Western farmers are constantly com
plaining that thera is no homo market
for their producis , and that they are
obliqed to send everything they raise
to the seaboard states or to Europe ia
order to obtain money for ih Th"e

duces the pr.'ce to such an extent that
there is little or no profit in farming.
If they had a home market for their
crops they could become wealthy in
the business of producing them. They
say all these things , in face cf the fact
that thia market is supplied with turn
ips from Canada ciderfrom Ohio.corn-
husks from Maryland , peanuts from
Tennessee , aud sw'aet potatoes from
Now Jersey.
This market is rarely supplied with
the requisite amount of buckwheat , or
the flour made from it. What generally -
ally passes for buakwheat flour is a
mixture , in various proportion ? , of
rya and corn meal , wheat middlings ,
and a small quantity of the article for
which it is named. The comparatively -
ly email amonnt of buckvrheat sold
here and principally from New York ,

produce this grain not only for home

b-.rreh a day ! Their tactories in
Cleveland , Toledo , etc. , turn them
out , ? 11 iron-bound , and blue painted , '
at a cost of SI.35 per barrel. Of
course , machinery has to do the work ;
which could not have been dona in
the days of the eld baud labor coop
erages.
One machine alone takes a barrel
and fits it "with iron hoops at the rata
of 1,200 a day. To attend to these
hooping machines it takes a man and
two boys for each , to properly dispose
of the barrels as fast aa the machine
"hoops them up. " Then the painting
is done by machinery.
If the paper barrels can be furnish
ed at the ra'e of § 1.30 each , the sav
ing to the oil company will be $9,000
a week , not counting Sundays.

has been issued to them by the agent
upon the surrender of their ponies
and firearms. Some of the Indians
have refused to make suoh surrender ,
and , as they are mostly young bucks
and spoiling for a fight , Mr. Hoongs-
berger thinks it not improbable that
they will engage in hostilities bafore
the end of the summer. During his
itsy at Poplar creek an Indian chief
named ' 'Long Dog. " with an escort of
forty braves from Sitting Bull's camp ,
made their advent one day in a noisy
and menacing manner , and demanded
n council with , the government author
ities. Fin-Jini ? tlut the "bluff" game
wouldn't work , they bagged a little
sugar and tobacco , and departed across
the line quite meekly and mildly.

One of the greatest pests at this

sheep and gather on the lambs. The
young animals ara worried and weak
ened by those parasites , and are some
times killed by them. It ia now easy
to rid ihe flock of them. The pest
may be deattoyed by dipping the
lambs in a decoction of tobacco and
iulphu- , one holf pound of tobacco
ste pad in va gallons of hot water ,
and the adjition cf eizht ounces of
fhweu of sulphur , well stirred in ,
nuke an effective dip. It should be
used at a temperature of 112 degrees ,
and should be kept at that heat by the
aldition of fresh hot liquidnot water.
The lambs only rf quire dipping , and
a half-tub large enough to immerse the
lamb while held by its head , and its
head kept out of the bath , is the beat
vehicle for applying the dip.
