Western farmers are constantly com plaining that thera is no homo market for their producis , and that they are obliqed to send everything they raise to the seaboard states or to Europe ia order to obtain money for ih Th"e cptt of transportation , they affirm , r - duces the pr.'ce to such an extent that there is little or no profit in farming. If they had a home market for their crops they could become wealthy in the business of producing them. They say all these things , in face cf the fact that thia market is supplied with turn ips from Canada ciderfrom Ohio.corn- husks from Maryland , peanuts from Tennessee , aud sw'aet potatoes from Now Jersey. This market is rarely supplied with the requisite amount of buckwheat , or the flour made from it. What generally - ally passes for buakwheat flour is a mixture , in various proportion ? , of rya and corn meal , wheat middlings , and a small quantity of the article for which it is named. The comparatively - ly email amonnt of buckvrheat sold here and principally from New York , Pennsylvania and Canada. There u no good reason why the west can not produce this grain not only for home consumption , but for the supp'y cf other sections of our country. The consumption of buckwheat would te doubled if a gcnuino article of fUur was nnuuficturdd &nl pot en the rnatl.ot in packages sui'cd to the wants of the retail trade. Take the seasons us they go , buck wheat is a protithblo crop to raise. Only a half bushel of s-ed is sufficient for an acre Tha avenga yield per acre i < about twenty bushels. A ma chine is not uecBuy to cut it , and it miy be thrashed economically with a il Mid winnowed by pouring it through a current of air. It exhausts the soil less than anyEown crop that can be produced m it. It may bo rais d to g'od advartaso on land too poor to pr-duoe paying crops of corn , wheat , ca p , rye or potatoes. The crop ia useful in subduing tough sod and preparing it for the growth plants that require thorough cultivation. The ground may bo prepared for It , the seed sown nnd the grain harvest ed ! i times whnn work on the farm is not driving. It matures quicker than any C'Id crop produced on northern fjrms. It is not tso bte to prepare hnd and to cow bucknhdat in most portions tions at the northwest. A fair yield of grain ia ojten obtained from .hnd on which a crop of fall rye or grass has been harvested bsfore the plowing was done. To pjpduco a large crop the soil should be good. To give the beat results it should bo ai well pre paid as for a crop of corn or small grains. The nneon why email crops of buckwheat ara often produced are manifest The land en which it is sown is of the poorest quality , and no poics arc taken with it ? propant'on. The teoJ ia often several yeass old , and is scattsretl over the ground by a person who ii unacquainted with sow ing g'ains. An afeinpt is maie to cove. , it by drawing R harrow over a lot of turf , ttoncs and lun pi ot 1'nrJ oitth. No goid CMP 'f auy kind is obtiired by this kii d . f mm-gemcnt. These pppr barrels will piobibly suj-OTsedo the vroodon ones for oil us nell as for other things ; but at present the com paoy is notqu'to p-rpu .l to put them upon the ma'k though Bomo very perfect onea have been made. They ccn Le furnished c'teap r than the oil company can make their own wooden one * ; aud nh n tt is addtd , that if the ol ; company could obtain them at even halt a cens cheaper per barrel than their own factories can now pro duce them , the saving would bo $159 a day , some idea may be had of the "magnitude of the business. Wo will preseut this idea in a still more striking -tfay. The company re ferred to makes no fewer thin 30,000 b-.rreh a day ! Their tactories in Cleveland , Toledo , etc. , turn them out , ? 11 iron-bound , and blue painted , ' at a cost of SI.35 per barrel. Of course , machinery has to do the work ; which could not have been dona in the days of the eld baud labor coop erages. One machine alone takes a barrel and fits it "with iron hoops at the rata of 1,200 a day. To attend to these hooping machines it takes a man and two boys for each , to properly dispose of the barrels as fast aa the machine "hoops them up. " Then the painting is done by machinery. If the paper barrels can be furnish ed at the ra'e of § 1.30 each , the sav ing to the oil company will be $9,000 a week , not counting Sundays. Sitting Bull's War Bonnet. Chicago lunej. . t Sitting Bull himself is still on the other side of the Canadian line , but liis "war bonnet" is now in thh city , in the possession of Mr. A. Hoerips- bergar , at No. 152 Ohio i tree * , who has recently rotmned from the ftr urrthvtcsf. A fHhon reporter for The Tiniej it 6j.ec ed this cur.'ous pat tern of aboriginal head w.ar la t eve ning The bomut p oper tnd its ap pen l.ige rue sares rbout nil e 'feet in Kng h 1 : is .1 hide usthitg. Some of these feahers are nearly three feet in length. This bonnet1 irrfH-wortf , by Sitting , JBuJirdarinK the fight which ended Jn extermination 'of ' heroic feathers killed by tho- famous Swua otief self. Tha bonnet was parcbisea from Sifting Bull by Mr , Charles Dl post trader at Poplar Creek ag ncy and Woody mountain. The price paid was $30. Mr. Hoenigsbcr er left the poplar Creek agency , which Is situated lets than one hundrel mllei from Sitting Bull's camp , a week ago last Sunday. He states that sever al thousand Indians belonging to Sit ting Bull's band are encamped in tha vicinity of Poplar Creek agency and. Fort Bu- ford. They were starving north of the line , and were obliged to come to the agency and ask for food , which has been issued to them by the agent upon the surrender of their ponies and firearms. Some of the Indians have refused to make suoh surrender , and , as they are mostly young bucks and spoiling for a fight , Mr. Hoongs- berger thinks it not improbable that they will engage in hostilities bafore the end of the summer. During his itsy at Poplar creek an Indian chief named ' 'Long Dog. " with an escort of forty braves from Sitting Bull's camp , made their advent one day in a noisy and menacing manner , and demanded n council with , the government author ities. Fin-Jini ? tlut the "bluff" game wouldn't work , they bagged a little sugar and tobacco , and departed across the line quite meekly and mildly. Bomsthln ? About Bees. The Egyptians exhibit great skill in their manner of cultivating the bee. As the flowers and herrost are much earlier in upper Egypt than in lower , the inhabitants profit by the circum stances in regard to their bees. They collect the hives of different villages hrga barges , and every proprietor at taches a p3ricular ! mark to his hives. When the boat is loaded the conduc tors ascrud the river slowly , stopping at all places where they can find pas turage for the bees. After having thus spent three months on the Nile the hivei are returned to their pro prietors , and , after deducting a small sum due to the boatman for having transported his hives from one end of the river to the other.'be finds him self suddenly enriched wth : a quanti ty of honey and wax , which Is imme diately sent to market. This rpecies of industry procures for the Egypti ans an abundance of production for the bee , which they export in large quantities to foreign land ? . In the counties of Yorkshire and Lancashire , England , when the moors are covered with a spacies of heather called ling , and which blossoms in August , cov ering these barren heath with a beau ty scarcely equaled in any other coun try , distant boo-keepers load the'r ' hives into wagons , and having previ ously engaged quarters for them with the farmers who dwell on the confines of the moor , tha hives are conveyed to their ranges , whew they remain n month or six weeks. Comparatively empty hives when carried awsy are brought back full of honey , and many weak hives are thus enabled to winter over without loss , wh'Ie the best on s have hr e quant'ti is i f V one y and w.ix removed fr > m t'.em , thj propuct f about iwo months in ihijeir. The hot weal or , sajs The Tjrcnto Mail , begins a risky seas , n for the flock , and a tinio when the shephmd's cara needs to ba constant. Files abound , and are ready to propagate in any moist filth about the tail and ud der. Once a sheep is fly blown is seeks a lonely place , and will hide ia a fence corner and remain out of sight until dark. The sun's heat and the want of either abundant or 'good vrater frequently brings on diarrhea , which increases the danger from the fly , and also weakens tha sheep. Dys entery follows neglected diarrhea , and carries cf the s'ckeiied ' animals very rapidly. There are many reasons why at this time a flock should be visited frequently , and counted each time , for certainty that all are in good con dition. If one h missed it should be at once sough'- , and brought home for rreatment'with care. One of the greatest pests at this eeason is ticks. These leave the shorn sheep and gather on the lambs. The young animals ara worried and weak ened by those parasites , and are some times killed by them. It ia now easy to rid ihe flock of them. The pest may be deattoyed by dipping the lambs in a decoction of tobacco and iulphu- , one holf pound of tobacco ste pad in va gallons of hot water , and the adjition cf eizht ounces of fhweu of sulphur , well stirred in , nuke an effective dip. It should be used at a temperature of 112 degrees , and should be kept at that heat by the aldition of fresh hot liquidnot water. The lambs only rf quire dipping , and a half-tub large enough to immerse the lamb while held by its head , and its head kept out of the bath , is the beat vehicle for applying the dip. If you are troubled with fever and ague , dumb arue , bill out fcrcr , Jaundice , dyspepsia , or any dUease of the ilrer , blood or stomach , and wl-h to git well , try the new ixmrdy.
