They otnnot be permitted to go back , or even Id" stand still , in the accumulation of Roth for a day , with out UBS. JThe utmost skill of the feeder is often taxed with the little fellows when they are about M month old ; for at that period the milk of the dam ceases to be sufficient to meet the wants of 4ho growing pigs ; and if they have not been permitted to learn to eat before that time ; and if an pbundsuco of highly nutritious food , in 1'quid or semi-liotffd form , is not furnished them from this time on , it will be impossible to keep up the rapid growth that has been attained by simply feeding these so tvs * properly up to that period. Ground oils and corn mixed , or ground corn with wheat middlings will make a good slop for the pigs ; soaked corn will afeo be highly relish ed , and will be found well adapted to keeping the pigs in high flesh ; but as soon as the new corn is fairly in milk , that will be found the best of all fat tening foods. "Make bay while the sun shines , " is the embodiment of sound doctrine in that department of husbandry ; but the injunction , "Make pork before cold weather comes , " ii equally a * sormd a maxim for the gov ernment of swine raisers. But if the pigs are tn be kept over thewintcr , and fed off for the next spring or autumn markets , we would recommend Itsjof the forcing process ; less of the stimulating , fat toning grain diet ; and would urge the importance of clover and grass ai a means of keep ing the pg4 in a good growing condi tion , and at the same time keeping thfiu healthy. Pigs cannot long stud up under the forcing system the high pressure plan of feeding that produces the enormoin weights sometimes at tained at six to nine month a and while this is perhaps , after4 ill , the most profitable method o the Breeder and feeder , we very nuch doubt whether it is the course hat produces the best quality of bacon ind hams. In these extra heavy pigs he weight ii largely made up of fat here is no corresponding growth of > one and muscle , and the pork is soft md oily. On the.contrary , when pigs ire given the run of the clover field luring their firet summer , with only & m < ill allowance of grain , the bone nd muscle is developed by the food nd oxercue ; and when they come to ie fattened off for market , there will o found a much greater proportion of 'lean meat" than in the earlier ma- ured piga. A retire Cows. The following statistics of thii well * stabliihed breed , deserve tha atten- ion of all who tie interested in dairy latters , and clearly indicates that tiese cows are scarcely yet appro- iatel at their true varae. The Ayrshire cow has been known ) produce over ten imperial gallons f good milk ia a day. A cowfeeder i Glatgow , selling lnsh milk , is said > have realized $250 in seven months 'oraone good cow and it is stated on igh authority , that § 1 a day for Biz tenths of the year , is ho uncommon icome for good cows under similar reumstancas ; and that 75 cents a ai ty is balow the average. But this aig' ' iplies high and judicious feeding. g'h be average yield on ordinary' food 81 ould be considerably less. 81IE Youatt estimates the daily yield of icc i i Ayrshire cow * fcr the .first two or c < ree months after calving , at five gai 01 ns a day on an average ; for the next ree months at three gallons ; and Io L- the next four months at one gala - Io a aud a half. This would be eight IoRi indred and fifty gallon ) as the an- clhi ul yield of a cow ; but allowing .for hiar me unproductive 'cows , he estimates ar a average of a dairy as six hundred sc llona per annum for each cow. scne tree and a half gallons of the Ayr- ne ire cow's milk will yield one and a If pounds of butter. He there- 01) ) d reckons two hundred and fit ; yceven pounds of butter , or five ivwl ndred and fourteen pounds of wl aeso , at the rate of twenty-four on unds to twenty-eight gallons of milk lei the yield of every cow , at a fair ill . d perhaps rather low averaga , in an en 'rshiro dairy during the year. Alton th s the yield much higher , saying foi it "thousands of the host Ayrshire i iry cows , when in prime condition ho d well fed , produce one thousand- an lions of milk per annum ; that in thafl icral , three and three-quarters to afl ir gallons of their milk will yield be pound and a half of butter ; and er anty-aeven and a half gallons of ye sir milk : will make twenty-one he iinds of full milk cheese. ' ye Dne of the four cows originally im- yewa rtod into this coTmtry by John P. shing , of Massachusetts , gave in pi , 3 year 3,864 quarts , beer measure , about 464 gallons , at'ten pounds to i gallon , being an overage of over 8 i and a half beer quarts a day "for cell i whole year. It it asserted , end me ) d authority , that the first Ayrshire full wrt r imported by the Massachusetts atl iety for the promotion of gricnl- hu > e , in 1837 , yielded , sixteen pounds a i butter a week for several weeks in and icession on grass feed only.
