to iasuro the largest per cenUge of
profit. They otnnot be permitted to
go back , or even Id" stand still , in the
accumulation of Roth for a day , with

feeder is often taxed with the little
fellows when they are about M month
old ; for at that period the milk of
the dam ceases to be sufficient to meet
the wants of 4ho growing pigs ; and if
they have not been permitted to learn
to eat before that time ; and if an
pbundsuco of highly nutritious food ,
in 1'quid or semi-liotffd form , is
not furnished them from this
time on , it will be impossible to
keep up the rapid growth that has
been attained by simply feeding these

Ground oils and corn mixed , or
ground corn with wheat middlings
will make a good slop for the pigs ;
soaked corn will afeo be highly relish
ed , and will be found well adapted to
keeping the pigs in high flesh ; but as
soon as the new corn is fairly in milk ,
that will be found the best of all fat
tening foods. "Make bay while the
sun shines , " is the embodiment of
sound doctrine in that department of
husbandry ; but the injunction , "Make
pork before cold weather comes , " ii
equally a * sormd a maxim for the gov
ernment of swine raisers.
But if the pigs are tn be kept over
thewintcr , and fed off for the next
spring or autumn markets , we would
recommend Itsjof the forcing process ;
less of the stimulating , fat toning grain
diet ; and would urge the importance
of clover and grass ai a means of keep
ing the pg4 in a good growing condi
tion , and at the same time keeping
thfiu healthy. Pigs cannot long stud
up under the forcing system the high
pressure plan of feeding that produces
the enormoin weights sometimes at
tained at six to nine month a
and while this is perhaps , after4
ill , the most profitable method
o the Breeder and feeder , we very
nuch doubt whether it is the course

here is no corresponding growth of
> one and muscle , and the pork is soft
md oily. On the.contrary , when pigs
ire given the run of the clover field
luring their firet summer , with only &
m < ill allowance of grain , the bone
nd muscle is developed by the food
nd oxercue ; and when they come to
ie fattened off for market , there will
o found a much greater proportion of
'lean meat" than in the earlier ma-
ured piga.
