every mining camp , and on account o !
the unusual baauty of his face was
dubbed "handsome Harry" by the
denizens of the town.

mining town , was infested with a
Ivge number of the "sporting frater
nity , " otherwise known as profession'
al gamblers. Among these was a'fine
looking , well dressed man named
George Watson. Ha had turned up
in the camp about three months pre
vious lo the date of whch I write ,
with plenty cf money , which he spent
with a lavish hand. Hit open-handed
generosity had made him a favorite
with ail , and his skill in manipulating
the cards could be attested by every ,
one who had faced him at the gam
bling table.
It was aoon observed that "Hand
some Harry" was closely watching
Watson's every movement , and sev
eral friends called the gambler's at
tention to the fast. To each one he
replied that there was a familiar look
on the youth's fce in expression
that he had seen before , though when
or where he had sees it his memory
failed to divulge.
"I don't know what the boy is
watching me for , " ho would say , yet a
Feeling of uneasinets which he could
