Garland , of the National Wool asso
ciation , to The Bston Commercial
Ballettn : lam of opinion that this
year's clip will not show any marked
.increase over that for 1879 , notwith-
'standing the encouragement from en
hanced prices , which would seem to
have pointed to a different result.
The somewhat discouraging , dayin
wool'growing turned , tliJ attention of
farmers to wheat raising. * * * *
The prospect for a heavy
wheat harvest is very
nattering , and hence I do not look for
a rapid change , if any at all , from
grain growing to wool production in
this locaiily. I note no material
change in condition of wools. Thopgh
rather milder then tha average , the
past winter was .generally favorable
'for feeding , and floe's s came through
iflj fair condition , and the yield per
head will he good. There scorns a
growing tendency among flock owners
to shear 'fin the diit" i. e. , without
'washing. This may show an apparent
increase in yield , while the actual
amount remains unchanged. Many
wool growers are disposed to hold their
wools nwhilp , in the hope that the re
cent decline in prices may bo restored.
The recollection that the advance of
last year benefitted those who pur
chased , rithtr than thcss who grow
the wool , encourages this course.
There are some movements for in
crease of flocks , and establishing
new ones. This is especially true of
Missouri , a state pecul arly adapted to
sheep husbandry , and destined ere
long to take front rank. Kansas will
come next , probably , and teveral en
terprises are on foot in Nebraska.
There is certainly no' reason for ex
pecting any such craze , however , as
sometimes overtake * and-turns the
heads of our people. * -
