Supper is a joyous festival with a \ f

Berlin is atrocious. The French- not

; ret that he imitates them in one cou
rticular : he persists in eating with ord tbal

dexterously without cutting his

The fact that Big English , the bootblack - ,
black , now drives a dray and h'.s for
ever left the box and brush behind
him , in no" reason why ho should lose
interest in his old companions. In
stead of cutting their acquaintance , he
has mapped out new and pleasant
plans and surprises for" them. He began -
gan about a week ago writing a comedy
which is to bo brought ; out by the
shiners just as soon as they- can save
enough money lo hire a basement
for & theatre. The new " theatre -
atro isn't to bo called "The
Grand Duke , " or any such
highfalutm tide , but will be known as
"Tho Retreat. " The new comedy is
called "The Miser's Cat , " and the cast
includessixteen speaking parts outside
of the cat , which will speak for itself.
The opens with the he .vy man dis
covered in a sugar hogshead on the
stage trying to sweeten himself up ,
and in less than a minute thirteen of
the other characters , including the
leading lady , and the first old man ,
are playing "shinny" and flying kites
around the hogshead. Thera ara four
murders , o.ne burglary , two fire
darmi , and a ward caucus in this :
scene. The scene is laid in Australia ,
ind the juvenile man is discovered
flanging to a tree with his legs cut otf.
Fhis Lamputation business doesn't
ieom to hurt him , however , for ha
oites the rope in two and land on the
jrjund in time to give a dozen foot I
pads and two tin-peddlers an awful
louncintr.for . making up faces at him ,
Fnere are thrca marriages , two fight ? ,
> ne runaway , and a bank robbery in
bis scene , and the Miter's Cat is hit
n the eye with a rotten apple ,
The comedy will have savan acts
md twenty-eight scenes , but the first
wo acts alone have been finished up
o date. The author is , however ,
tard at work , and if he carries out his
lot in good shspe he has every reason
o feel that fame and fortune will
fink down on him with both eyes at
nee. One of the novelties in this
ilay is that all the actors come down
nd "go up a ladder , instead of enter-
ng and leaving the sCage in the usual
tanner.
