Every inch of theground was hotly contested. The bulk of the testimony for the gov ernment waa witliheld , only : nough being introduced at this preliminary examination to warrant the holding of the prisoners 'or trial. Randall Brown has become well-known all over the country. His performances lave attracted a great deal of atten- : ion. Ho recently closed a very suc cessful season , under the auspices of -he Redpath Lyceum Bureau , and came to Omaha for a rest. When it was learned that he was visiting here , Mr. Al. B. Noble , at the request of numerous prominent citizens , induced Mr. Brown to give an entertainment icre , and it accordingly took place at ; ho Academy of Music Thursday night TJierc was quite a large audience in iltcndance , and they were well repaid. At Mr. Brown's request the au dience appointed a committee , which was composed of Pr o H. Kelloni , Hon. Vf. A. Gwycr , D. C. Brooks , JitdgoTorte- ; . P. Barrett , and A. D. Jones. Mr. Brown then proceeded will * -performances , which were conducted under the direction of .tho committee. Different persons were selected from the audience for "subjects. " To illubtrate the nature of the entertainment , wo will give a few of Mr. Brown's experiments. Mr. Brown was blind folded , and Ciipt. Payne then hid a [ lieco of silver. Mr. Brown then took ono of the Captain's liumls , and fi-lt of ely.ipljiin'.s forehead , niuMhrii , jiftor a few ninmeiifaflho wont \u"among the audience , MilL.ha.vuig ! hold af Capt. P.iyno'n head , aiursuro eiioiigh found the silver. Mr. George Smith thought of some person - in the audience , and Mr. Brown , after going through.the same operation with him that he did with Mr. Payne , pointed out the very per son whom he had thought of. The same kind of an experiment with photographs was successfully tried , and also with the letters of the alphabet. The entertainment was kept up until a Into hour , at the ITS- ( mat oft he audience who had become deeply inteicsted.Ve have given a very poor idea of the pcrjoiinancu ; its character is such that it is difliuult to explain or describe in the limited space of an ordinary newspaper arti cle. Tile performances of Mr. Brown may justly be called dramatic , for they abound in startling surprises , which convince the dullest : uid most preju diced that the gentleman has been endowed dewed by nature with gifts which have seldom or never been vouchsafed to man. These revelations are made by Mr. Brownnot only with great quick ness , but with an air of perfect case and unassuming simplicity , which ado's another charm to the pleasing charac ter of what he succeeds in doing , and his audience depart not merely aston ished and puzzled beyond measure , but with the satisfaction of having dis covered , in the course of-an agreeably spent evcnijjg , that there are powers in the human mind of which they have hitherto been entirely ignorant. It is hoped by many that ho will give another entertainment , and we understand there is a probability of his doing so. . High living cannot bcj indulged in without disagreeable consequences.
