Two Hen Arrested on this Charge , On the 12th of July a building , on Tenth street , near the bridge , was destroyed by fire. Itwas occupied by Conrad Meier , who had his furniture - nituro and other articles insured for $1,250 in the Germauia Insurance Company of Freeport , Illinois. It was discovered some time after the fire , that the articles insured were not worth more than $50. This caused an" investigation into the matter , and an agentof the company arrived here a few days ago for that purpose. The result of his labors and those of others warranted the suspicion that the building had been set on fire. A warrant of arrest was accordingly made out for Meier , and also one for Charles Landsberry , who is charged with being an accessory to the crime. Conslable James Ne- ligh Saturday arrested Meier , and constable Simpson captured Landsberry. The two prisoners were brought before Judge Porter , who bound them over in the sum of $2,000 each for their appearance at the next term of the District Court. Landsberry procured his bonds , and Meier is endeavoring to do the same. Eeal Estate Sales. For the wee } : ending , August 21,1874. ( From the Council BluQs Globe ) "What is this country coming to , ' is a question that is just now seri ously agitating the Globe , and , ii common with it , hundreds of goo < people in this part of Iowa. " The last case illustrative of thi natural cussedness of human na hire that has come to our notice ii of a rather mysterious character and occurred in the family of Jas Peat , superintendent of the Grange warehouse at Creston. Mr. Peat's residence , however , the reader musi understand , is within the limits o : Adait county , where the family is greatly respected by all acquaintec therewith. A night or two ago i daughter who slept in an uppei room , disappeared froto her apartment - ment In the morning it was found that a ladder had been used at a window of the room , and two men in stocking feet were tracked from the house to the prairie. The girl's track not being seen it is thought she had been chloroformed. On the same morning a man and a young woman boarded the train at Creston and went toward St. Joseph , who are thought to have been the par ties. Mr. Peat started in pursuit , declaring that he would capture the man or perish in the attempt He says if his daughter went voluntari ly he will let her go ; if not , her ab ductor shall die. The girl is but seventeen years old. Last winter an eM r daughter of Mr. Peat voluntarily eloped with the same peroon suspected of this last adventure. Mr. Peat at that tin.e captured the parties and brought his daughter home , beading her to Minnesota directlyaftetward. It is qui'.e likely this may be another voluntary elopement , but this , of coqrse is "mere conjcture.
