NEW YORK , July 31. . No other day since the revival of the Beecher scandal has been so eventful as yesterday. Every point connected with the affair has been so thoroughly discussed that it seems ! there is little more to "be said. The meeting of the committee thought to be of slight importonce , though three witnesses were examined. Some little disappointment is ex pressed that neither Storrs nor Moulton were present. Moulton is still at Narragansett and Storrs at Princeton. Letters have been sent to Frank Carpenter and others , ask ing them tokappear and tell what they know. Betcher remained home during the day , seeing a few visilors. Til- ton was left more to himself than during anjr day previous , and de voted himself to needed rest. Tilton's counsel Morris had along interview with the district attorney yesterday regarding Gaynor's case. Both share the opinion that though Gay- nor had a technical right to institute proceedings against Tilton , in prac tice ho would have no standing in court. "Morris has been for a long time in the controversy of Til- ton against Beechcr , and has im plicit faith in Tilton's cause. He says that he knew for a year past that the facts must come out and , possible as they are , must now bo established. Tilton , when he called at Ovington's house Sofiday night , wished to treat Mrs. Tilton magnan- imou ly , and said that whatever she wanted from the Livingston street hou'-e she could have. Mrs. TiUon , being informed of this , made out a list of necessary ar- r tides of wearing apparel , and other F things , but when the inPbscnger d presented the order Tilton exclaimed - " > ed , "Mrs. Tilton can take her clothj1 Ing , but not another devilis-h thing 1J shall be taken from this house ! " s , Beecher's statement , though con- * ' eluded Wednesday , has not been a presented to the Committee. By t ( advice , he Is waiting until Moul- ° ton's ' testimony has been given. Although ready to goon at any time , his friends urge that Moulton must precede him. Moulton , it is re ported , left Narragansett last night and will be in Brooklyn to-day. There is a mystery about his move ments , and an apparent di.-.inclinn- tion to appear with hi * alleged im portant documents. If Moulton refuses to tpstify they ' " cannot render a verdiqt satisfactory to the public and themselves. Moui- G ] I ton has frequently declared Beecher Innocent of any crime. These de 3 ( clarations to this eilect are in wri ting , and will appear in evidence > before the committee. Beecher's statement will probably not be made public before next wgcfr , As soon as Moujtoij tpatjflps the committee wj'll , Jt j understood , te hold sessions morning , afternoon and evening.
