KEBRABEA CHOP NOTES.
The Crops in Ix > gan valley are ill
excellent condition never bef ter.
Burtonian.
The bulk of the barley of the
county is harvested and stacked in
good condition. [ Sarpy Sentinel.
The wheat yield this year prom .
ises to be equal if not superior to
that of last year. [ Pawnee Repub
lican.
Considerable new barley Is now
being brought to market , and real-
i/es good prices. [ Saunders Repub
lican.
Farmers begin to complain of dry
weather , and fear the corn crop will
be shortened , if it continues much
longer. [ Xeb. City Chronicle.
The intensely hot weather for the
past week has parched" and injured
the crops and grass to a consider
able extent. [ JSorth Platte Enter
prise.
Our farmers are now hard at work
in harvesting. The crops give
promise of a fair yield , though some
fields of grain have been injured by
the drouth. [ Grand Island Times.
Saunders county will turn off the
largest and best crop this season she
ever has , and with the good prices
which are expected we may expect
to see different times ere long.
[ Ashlaud/rimes.
The northern part of Riehland
precinct , the southern part of Shell
Creek precinct , and the northern
part of Col fax precinct , are infested
with grasshoppers. Tne little pests
are eating everything before them.
[ Schuyler Register.
Early wheat is well filled with
plump solid kernels. Late wheat is
doomed to suffer to some considera
ble extent. This crop is said to be
better as far west as Osceola , than it
is from here eastward. They had
one good ram just when it was
needed. [ Butler County Prebs.
The extremely warm weather , ac
companied by hot southern wind ? ,
during the last ten days , his given.
just cause for wide spread alarm
among fanners in this part of the
State. This burning sirocco is some
thing unusual in this State , and as
to the cuuae aud ellect is a problem
as yet. [ Howard ( Clay Co. ) Advo-
Cite.
Cite.We
We had a couple of rain showers
last week , but they were not heavy
enough to do much good. The corn
and vegetable crops need badly now
a good soaking rain. The last few
days , it is said , has ripened the
wheat so very fast that much will
be lost in the efforts to harvest and
save it. [ Browuville Advertiser.
The first load of new barley was
brought to Hooper last week by Mr.
Charley Eisley of .Logan , and , al
though the quality averages with
any yet exhibited of this year's
growth , it was not as good as we
would like to see. Owing to the
early drouth , many of the kernels
are small and blighted. [ Fremont
Tribune.
The grasshoppers are on the ram
page. Several fields of wheat , oats
and flax in this county will not be
cut , while many fields of corn con
tain nothing but a convention of
green stalks standing about over the
ground. Some parts of the county
are yet unmolested , but the proba
bilities are that the corn crop will
be a total low , [ Hchuyler Register.
For the past week we have heard
much fault-finding by many of oiu
farmers , because thev feared the hot
weather would result in destroying
thejr wheat crops. After a careful
inquiry wp flpd that if at all , the
crops will not fall short inore than
one-fifth in this county , while the
late rains will greatly help the corn
and potatoes , and we hope allay the
fears of many. r0akota City Mail.
Barley is harvestedwheat , is about
ready for the harvester , and is good
very good. Oats are also good.
Corn is rather backward , and but a
small acreage was put In. It , how
ever , has a good color , and is grow
ing lioely. Early potatoes are good
late ones not so good. There were
rains here , and in these parts last
week.-Lowell , ( Kearney Co. ) Reg-
Ister.
Ister.Tho
The present season , until the hot
and dry weather set in about three
weeks since , never presented a
fairer prospect in Nebraska for
splendid crops. But the past three
weeks of unexampled and extreme
hot weather is telling on all crops
not fully matured , A great deal of
the early sown wheat in Platte
county , we have reason to believe ,
will not suffer materially from the
drought , and will yield nearly an
average crop. [ Columbus Journal.
The crops in Seward , York , But-
Jer , Hamilton , Clay and other coun
ties , never looked better. The grain
in those counlios js generally well
filled , but In the valley there is some
that is light. The hot winds and
want of rain in the Republican
valley , give prospects of a lighter
or only average crop of corn in that
locality , but after you get up on the
prairies , there is splendid corn ,
some of it eight feet } n height.
[ Lincoln Journal.
Our farmers are now busy gath
ering tbeir grain. Labor is in de
mand and everybody seems to have
plentj to do notwithstanding the hot
weather , and deplorable condition
of affairs that is said to exist In our
midst. The weather , though not
exactly what those who are trying
to keep cool would tltsire , It Is ex
cellent for harvesting. _ Thu crops
are In splendid condition ; there is
no rust anc ] no scab , and the result
is , the 3'leld will be abundant. The
corn is looking well and promises a
large yield. [ Dannebrog ( Howard
Co. ) Sentinel ,
Harvest is well begun down
way ; the wheat here will not turn
out as well g was expected a few
weeks ftgo. The dry weather has
caused it to ripen too soon , and in
places it is badly shrunken. As a
whole the crop will compare favor
ably with that of last year. The
com looks sickly hereabouts , and
has nearly ceased growing. Unless
we get more rain see , ( he corn
will be n failure. We have had but
one rniu storm since the 14th of
June , and that didn't amount to
much. [ York County Jtcconl.
"Wheat is damaged son > e by the
drought , but will average througlj-
out the county somewhere in the
neighborhood of twenty bushels to
the acre. "Wheat is the leading crop
of the county and is the main stand
by of the farmer , for there is little
territory planted in corn on ground
which has been under-cultivation.
for the past two or three years ; most
of this kind of ground -was sown in
wheat , they expecting to raise their
corn on this year's breaking , called
" " but owing to the
"sod corn , con
tinued dry \veatlier it will be a com
plete failure , unless we should have
rain within the next ten days _
TBoone County Correspondence Co
lumbus Journal.
The farmers are In the midst of
their harvest , and a more propitious
Umo for it could not have been
chosen. The weather has not been
extremely warm this week , and the
shower that fell Wednesday mornIng -
Ing was not severe enough to do
any damage , while it cooled th ° at
mosphere and laid the dust. Corn
was suffering a little from Tuesday's
warm wind , but the shover will do
it a world of good. A little more
rain this month will assure the fai-
mers"a splendid crop. [ Beatrice
Express.
Wheat , oats , potatoes and garden
stuff , in Red Willow county are
ruined. There are but few fields of
wheat that will pay for harvesting
, none of oats. I have cut and put
up one small field of six acres of
wheat , but it is nearly worthier.
Up to the 1st or even the 10th of
June , these crops had a splendid
promise , but these hot , burning
winds came on and they are literal
ly burned out. Corn stands out yet ,
but unless they get some rain \ \ ith-
in a few days it will be badly dam [
aged. [ Lowell Register.
It is expected the harvest will end
by the middle of next week. Bar
ley is. about all cut , and in the
shock , aud wheat and oats are now
receiving attention.
The general statement is , that
oats , wheat , barley and flax are
above the average crops. The wheat
crop will ' e immense. Some of it
is not as well headed out as it might
have been , but the cases are few ,
and but few farmers say anything
about the blight The damage to
ciops near Saltillo by the late storm
was greatly overrated. [ Lincoln
Journal.
Up to this writing no material
damage has been done to the crops
in this county , except in small
patches on the island , where the
grasshoppers have been feeding on
the corn and late oats. We have
hopes that their visitation will not
fall upon our farmers , and that the
damage done east of us may not be
so great as it is at present believed
to be.
The wheat harvest is over and the
crop , which is fully an average one ,
is out of danger. [ Grand Island In
dependent.
