FouiI'li a glove. Owner can
have the same by calling at this of
fice and paying cost of this notice.
The sum of SS0 was on Saturday
raised by the employes, at Ilall's
foundry, for Mr. Haines, who had a
leg broken in the morning.
Fletcher & Hubbard will soon
begin sprinkling the streets. They
are now soliciting subscriptions for
this purpose, and everybody should
come down liberally.
In the United States District
Court Saturday, Xick Monhof
fcr was found guilty of selling
liquor, tobacco, etc., without paying
the required tax. He was fined 35.
Councilman Stephenson, it is
said, made complaint Saturday
agaiust the proprietors of the Herald
for putting up their new building
contrary to the provisions of the lire
limit ordinance.
Molly Catlin and Bob Catlin
-were fined $10 and costs at the po
lice court Saturday for running
a disorderly house. Patsy O'Neill,
a female inmate of the same, was
also fined a like amount.
A certain Henry Smith, while
intoxicated, stole a couple of blan
kets Frldaynight from a man named
larson, in South Omaha. He was
arrested by Policeman larson, and
brought before Judge Peabody this
morning. ,He was fined $3.00 and
costs upon his restoring the blankets
to the owner.
By our telegrams it will be seen
that Ben. Hogan is no more. He
died Saturday, from the effects
of a revolver shot, received while
attempting to prevent a woman
from fchooting another man. He
had many friends in this city, where
he trained for two weeks previous
to his fight with Tom Allen at Iowa
City.
Stein, the merchant tailor, was
the victim of an unpleasant surprise
party about 8 o'clock Friday even
ing. A piece of iron, three feet and
a half long, and about three quar
ters of an inch in diameter, pene
trated the east side of the building,
going through to the inside and
projecting two or three inches,
knocking off the plastering, and
causing considerable excitement in
that tailor shop. The iron was
pulled through, and was found to
be crooked like a eanc on one end.
On the outside of the building a
hole, (Jmilar to one produced by a
large bullet, was found. How this
missile was ever sent with such
force, or who threw it, is a mystery.
It is thought that some man must
have hurled it from some neighbor
ing building, or that the wind blew
it from some roof.
"A Daughter of Bohemia," is
the title of a new novel by Chris
tian Reid, author of "Valerie Ayl-
mer," "Aiorion aiousc," vwuaa
Atonement," and other works. It
is published in elegant style, with
beautiful illustrations, by D. Apple
ton & Co., and is for sale by S. C.
Abbott & Co., of this city. It is one
of the most interesting novels of tie
day, and is written in most chai ru
ing style." The plot is an excellent
one, and the reader becomes inte
rested from the first page, and his
interest constantly increase.-", until
the climax is reached in the hut
sentence of the story. This Is the
kind of a novel that a reader of
fiction cannot fail to appreciate ; it
is one which you wish to finish be
fore you lay it down, which is some
iblBg that cannot be said of eveiy
yrotk of fiction.
3 1 The reading of the evidence in
the Baumcr- Johnston contested
election case, "was concluded last
evening before the City Council.
The case will be concluded this
evening. '
-A stove tumbled over in a
building on the eastside of Eleventh
street, between Farnham and Doug
las, yesterday morning about eight
o'clock, and started up a little blaze.
An alarm was sounded, but the fire
was put out before the engines ar
rived. The Johnsou-Baumer long con
tested election case, was concluded
Saturday evening, before the City
Counsel. Thb case was argued by
the council for each contestant, and
then submitted to the council. A
resolution, that a certificate of elec
tion be given to Edward Johnson,
was then carried, the seven Demo
crats voting for it, and the five Re
publicans voting against it.

A Man ef Family;
The Pittsburgh Leader, of May
4th, gives the following account of
a colony consisting of but one fam
ily bound for Nebraska:
"A Gorman emigrant passed
through this city on Saturday on
his way to Nebraska, where he has
purchased a farm. Of the nineteen
children, thirteen were boys, and
six girls. There were three pairs of
twins among the children, four of
which were boys and two girls.
They spoke pretty fair English,
were all stout and hearty-looking,
and were the right kind of a family
to start a new settlement with.
After the old gentleman had drawn
them up in line, and counted heads,
they embarked on the train for
their home."
