By our telegrams it will be seen that Ben. Hogan is no more. He died Saturday, from the effects of a revolver shot, received while attempting to prevent a woman from fchooting another man. He had many friends in this city, where he trained for two weeks previous to his fight with Tom Allen at Iowa City. Stein, the merchant tailor, was the victim of an unpleasant surprise party about 8 o'clock Friday even ing. A piece of iron, three feet and a half long, and about three quar ters of an inch in diameter, pene trated the east side of the building, going through to the inside and projecting two or three inches, knocking off the plastering, and causing considerable excitement in that tailor shop. The iron was pulled through, and was found to be crooked like a eanc on one end. On the outside of the building a hole, (Jmilar to one produced by a large bullet, was found. How this missile was ever sent with such force, or who threw it, is a mystery. It is thought that some man must have hurled it from some neighbor ing building, or that the wind blew it from some roof. "A Daughter of Bohemia," is the title of a new novel by Chris tian Reid, author of "Valerie Ayl- mer," "Aiorion aiousc," vwuaa Atonement," and other works. The plot is an excellent one, and the reader becomes inte rested from the first page, and his interest constantly increase.-", until the climax is reached in the hut sentence of the story. This Is the kind of a novel that a reader of fiction cannot fail to appreciate ; it is one which you wish to finish be fore you lay it down, which is some iblBg that cannot be said of eveiy yrotk of fiction. 3 1 The reading of the evidence in the Baumcr- Johnston contested election case, "was concluded last evening before the City Council.
