Washington, May 6. The Senate in executive session Confirmed L. L. Bunjett Commis sioner General of the Land Office., vice Willis Drummond, to take efr feet June 1st. As far as can be ascertained from official sources, it seems to be pretty clearly established that Secretary Riehanlson's retirement from tllP treasury tiepaitinent has boon defi nitely settled, and that E. H. Washburne, Minister to France, will succeed him, in fact It Is stated Tery positively that the position has been offered and accepted by Mr. Washburne, Several names are mentioned jn connection with the French mission to succeed Mr. Washburno, among these are Secre tary Fish. It is behoved to be the desire of Mr, Richardson that Mhen he vacates the treasury portfolio to retire to private life. Information is received from Mr. Richardson, who Is at Charleston, S. C, states that his health has been little if any benefitted by his trip. The nervous nrostration from which 'he was suffering Mhcn he left Washington is said to have been rather increased by the trip, ami hp has been confined his room. The statement that assistant secretary Sawyor Is to retire at the same timo with Mr. Richardson does not teem to be well founded. Washington, May G.
