EDITORIAL NOTES.
Beginning with this issue, one column of The
Hesperian will be devoted solely to the alumni and
former students. Until other arrangements are made
the column will be under the charge of the editor-in-chief.
It is the intention to make the alumni notes
of especial interest. Any news in regard to gradu
ates will be gladly received and published,
Lack of space renders it impossible for The Hes
perian to print, in this issue, the constitution of the
Western Inter-collegiate Press Association. It wiH
appear in the next issue. A report of the convention
will be found in another column. Every college pa
per should join this association at once. United
efforts and mutual association will raise the standard
of college journalism in the west, and increase the in:
fluence of every college paper,

The inter-state contest is over. According to
all accounts the decision gave almost universal satis
faction. The Nebraska delegates returned home
well pleased with their work. Lincoln has the next
inter-state contest. This,, however, is due to the
skillful maneuvering of the Nebraska representatives.
It was only by wire-pulling and skillful scheming that
Nebraska formed the winning combination. Yet The
Hesperian is glad that the day of such political work
at the inter-state contest is practically past. Here
after the state whose orator appears first on the pro
gram will be entitled to the presidency; the fourth
on the program will have the vice-presidency and the
location of the next contest; and the seventh in or
der will be entitled to the secretary and treasurer.
The states will pursue a system of rotation in regard
to order on the program. All this has been brought
about by changes in the constitution at the recent
meeting.
While such radical yet judicious amendments were
being made to the constitution, it would have been
a wise move to provide that judges for the contest, so
far as possible, should be chosen from states not rep
resented in the contest. With no intention of ques.
tioning the honesty or fairness of any judge in any of
the contests, we wish to call attention to a coincidence
in one respect, that is extremely likely, if seen .
