UUY VOUU COM.MliN'CKMKNT KI.OWKKS OF HIM.
From Prof. H, P. McCollum, Supt. City Schools, Central City, Neb.
In making n icccnt ptuchase of a cyclopedia for use in our public schools, 1 did a good deal of woik in the way of
examining and comparing cyclopedias. In comparing Johnson's Univuksai. Cyci.oi'KHIA with the last edition of
Appleton's, which I have in my own library, I find it (Johnson's) later than Appleton's by at least ten years, ami, especially
on live scientific subjects, sometimes more than that. I also compared it with the International to some extent, and the
result was I puichased Johnson's. The more I see of it, the better I like it. For school use especially, I consider it
preferable to any I have seen, including Appleton's, Chamber's, Library of Universal Knowledge, International, and
lirilanniia.
.Mr.ssks. A. J. Johnson & Company, Publishers; Hi itai.o, N. V. December 21, 1SS8.
Gentlemen .The next few years will witness a gieat change in educational ideas. The possibilities or self-culture
sue to be emphasised, and the means of aid and direction increased. After a careful examination of "Johnson's Universal
Cyclopedia," I am convinced that while it is excellently adapted to the needs of piofossionstl and 'business men, it is
eminently useful to the earnest, thorough self-educator. This work, with its corps of contributors, offers accurate aiticles
on the widest range of subjects. To the value of trustworthy infownation is added the inspiration of personality associated
with great names. 1 heartily commend this cyclopedia to all, and especially to those who are pursuing self-set couiscs in
the great university of life. .?-( Bishop) John H. Vinci ni Chancellor Chautauqua lnicrsity.
