The first prize contest in the history oi the institution was held by the Palladiau society, in the Opera House, last Saturday night. W. A. Baldwin, who had como from his home for th purpose of taking part, was unable to speak on account of sickness, but a beautiful floral de sign prepared for him by the ladies of hia class made him feel that his jour, cy hud not been in vain. The Orators and their subjects were as follows: "American Hum orists," Elton Fulmor; "A Goddess iu Exile," Will O Jones; "Is Mind Material," R. L. Marsh; "An Italian Monk," A. G. Warner. The first and second prizes were taken by Warner and Marsh respectively, and the other two contestants received floral designs from the young ladies of their classes that were almost as much in value as the prizes. Good work, a good audience, and good humor will make any future contest, as they made this one, a success. Never buy a copy of a picture.
