iwi'mmwummmmttmii iiiwifllflpumt muvmamanw N THE HESPERIAN STUDEJNT. tl'T this curse husliccii takon nwny, It is prob able Unit next fall term wiltglvo us u full er school tli mi ever before. Strangely enough It was not a Senior but one of our most promising Preps who was silling down in the road playing but tons with one of his fellows when two la dies came along and one of Ihcm called out with a winning smile, "Little boy will you please gel up? my horse may get frightened." That Prep, got out of the way; and you have only to mention "little boy" in his presence to cause him to evanish. The Cadets are now happy. The Band has made suflicicnl progress to play for them. Now nothing prevents llic boys from becoming enthused with martial ar dor. We much mistake their natures if the boys do not allow their military enthu siasm to increase. Wo have a splendid Professor in this department, we have a promising band; and now if the boys do not make an impression before the Re gents in June, they have only themselves to blame for it. We commend the domestic economy of those two Seniors who, last Circus day took their stations, early, in the morning on Historical square to "see the circus come in." They stood there in the rain all the forenoon watching the men put up the tents. When dinner time came these two Seniors edged bashfully up to the manager and asked him, if they could not carry hay for the elephant; but a more enterprising Freshman had got the start of them. The boys then went home and did not go to the circus be cause, they say, their morality did not ad mit of it. A schoolmaster of several years expo rience has become a student of the Uni versity. He said he did not want to pur. sue the primary studies usually taught in institutions of this kind but would like to take something more advanced, as al gebra and orthography. An innocent Prep looked at him in admiration and said that he had heard that some of the higher classes studied algebra, but as for orthography he had never heard of that before and did not believe that they taught any branches so advanced in the University. The following is a bona fide conversa tion which took place at a popular lecture recently between two of our most promis ing Preps: Miss A. (punching Mr. B. between the ribs with her fan) "Why! Mr. B., don't snore so loud, you are attracting the at tendon of those cruel Preshies over there!" Mr.B. "Where arc wet" Miss A. "Wo are at the Opera houso, and a great many more are listening to you than to the lecture." Mr. B. ''Well, I don't care for the looks. I think I have reason to be sleepy. Wasn't I over to your house last evening and the evening before, and didn't you go to sleep while I was talking to you, not even unking to tell me to call again when I came away V No, Madam, I have neglected my lessons and neglected my fleep on your account and now I am go ing to make up tor lost time." And he settled into a prolongued snore while a Binile of sympathy for the fair one was wafted through the audience. Sh f- Prof. Anghoy was callod away last Friday. lie will return next Monday. Chancellor Fairfield has been unable to be at the University for the past two days. Lieut. Webster attended the reception of Judge AlcOrary at Omaha, on the 5lh lust. Prof. Hitchcock's hoarseness is much better. Ho lias had a serious time this term. Prof. McMillan has never been absent from a recitation within onr remem brance. Prof. Church has been obliged to be ab sent from his classes on account of the death of his child. Prof. Collier's health has again failed so that he had to quit his classes. Profs.
