The young Indies of the Dormitory se cured an omnibus and paid a visit to the Penitentiary and Insane Asylum. They were highly pleased with their visit. Some of them remarked, however, that tho convicts were given to selecting rather "loud" patterns for their suits; hut they behaved very well and not a single convict tried to kill any body while they were there. A University student was approached by a minister during Conference whore quested him to examine a book which lie handed him. ''Tho price of this work," said he, "is one dollar, but I am soiling to ministers at lialf price, you may have a copy for fifty cents." The student suc ceeded in convincing, him that he was not a minister although he had tho inter est of the Church at heart. The cadets are going to Omaha Nov. 3d to participate in tiie reception of Gen. Grant. A car has been chartered and Col. Chase of Omahu proposes to boar part of the expenses incidental to tho trip if tho cadets find it burdensome. A communication has been received from the commander of Company II, tender ing the cadets the use of tho barracks du ring their stay, and an escort to and from tho depot. The boys anticipate a big time. Oul-rtoor Groups taken on short notice by our new artists, Wheat & Ford. There was a great stir in tho upper cir cles of mouse society the other day. It was caused by the return of a mouse which had been captured and escaped. During its captivity it visited the chem istry class and Prof. Collier and was in veigled into taking some laughing gas, much to tho edification and amusement of tho class, It was confined in tho gas un der ajar until it became insensible, but upon the removal of the jar and tho con tact of the fresh air, it suddenly arose and bidding a somewhat hasty adieu to the Prof and class, departed. The sociable given by the University Union Oct. 3d, was a sociable in the true sense of tho word. Nobody looked lonesome and wo are confident nobody felt so. Every body sailed in and talked to every pody else and every body else talked back. The circus caught the greater part of the objectionable clement and the residue consisted of ladles and gentlemen. Abundant refreshments were sorvuJ and instrumental music was fur nished during the evening. When the hour to adjourn came all departed reluc tant to go so soon, but well satisfied with themselves and the rest of tho human race. A number of young men, members of tho Pnlladian society, broke loose tho other evening and made night hid that is discoursed sweet music on the evening air as sercnadcrs. The bashful youths look in the Dormitory on thoir rounds and wore prevailed upon to while away a few moments in the company of the twenty or thirty fair ones who have their abiding place there Tho City Marshal and two assistants made thoir appearance soon after tho departure of the sercnadcrs bu' passed on in a short time.
