draw by consent of the board.
Regent Fifleld moved to lit up the room
set apart for the " University Union," at
a cost not exceeding thirty dollars. The
matter was referred to the finance com.
mittee who reported favorably and the res
olution was adopted.
On motion of Regent Holmes section 0
of chapter 0 of by-laws was amended to
read as follows: "All students are re
quired to have at least three daily studies
or lectures, or their equivalent, unless ex
cused by the faculty, and to attend such
other exercises as the faculty may direct."
Adjournment.
December 10, 3 O'clock, 1. M. All
were present except Regent Gannett.
The minutes were read and approved.
The executive committee made an elab
orate report concerning the repairs of the
building which was referred to the li
nance committee.
Supt. Culbcrtson submitted a report of
the management of the College Farm,
which was received, ordered filed and re
furred to the proper committees.
The following was offered by Regent
Tuttle: "Resolved that military science
and tactics constitute a part of all the
courses f study in the University." The
resolution was referred to the committee
on University and library who asked un
til the next meeting of the Hoard to report.
Regent Tuttle also offered the follow
ing: " Resolved that Harrington Emerson,
now teacher of Modern Languages, be
raised to a full professorship with tho ti
tie of professor of Modern Languages."
The resolution was adopted on motion of
Regent Fifleld.
A resolution was also passed requiring
a detailed report from each professor and
teacher of the work done. Adjournment.
December 20, 9 O'clock A. M. All
were present except Regent Gannett.
Minutes were read and approved
The committee on finance reported
that in their opinion there wcro no' funds
" that could be used for tho insurance of
the building.
On motion of Regent Holmes it was re
solved to put gas pipes and fixtures into
the University where most needed.
On motion of Regent Tuttle a resolu
tion was passed asking the legislature to
endow the Industrial College with the re
maining saline lands.
Tho selection of an orator for com
mencement was committed to the faculty.
Regent Fifleld introduced the follow
ing: " Resolved that a student desiring to
be excused occasionally from recitation
shall apply to the instructor in the given
study." Also the following: "Resolved,
that there be on the part of each student
one exercise cacli month in declamation
and one in English composition, under the
instruction of the rhetorical professor.
Regent Holmes offered the following:
"Whereas, Since the last meeting of the
Board of Regents the cit'zens of Lincoln
have caused the University building to be
successfully repaired by placing thereun
der a new and substantial foundation of
the best limestone and have repainted and
otherwise repaired the same, thereby
greatly improving the appearance and
making the building substantial and per
manent; therefore,
llesolved, that the Board of Regents
view witli pleasure the completion of the
important work which lias been brought
to a successful termination, and they de.
sire at tit is time publicly to recognize the
valuable aid, so timely rendered by the
citizens of Lincoln, and especially com
mend and appreciate the liberality and
good judgment shown by the citizens and
particularly of tho citizens' committee in
their valuable work.
The Board adjourned sine die.

Tho study of Political Economy has
been made obligatory in the law schools
of Franco.
