It will be our aim hereafter to confine our pages more particularly to educational in terests throughout the State. Every teach er, every friend of the University and of etlucition should, by their subscription, materially assist in sustaining the I Iks fekian Siudknt. It requires means to carry on any enterprise; and the citizens of Nebraska should take pride in their University and the journal which repre sents the talent and progress of the same, and manifest their appreciation of our ef forts to place in their hands a journal of literary merit. Laying aside all cares, we, among the many, assembled in the Union Hall, and proceeded to get acquainted with the nuuiy young ladies, who crowded around us, eager for an introduction. Bui it was just the same, everybody got acquainted with everybody else, and ev erybody had one or the times, which will occupy a prominent place in their mem ory for time to come. Many amused themselves witli various games, and some even "tripped the light fantastic toe." Miss Barker and Mr. Fitcli presided at the piano and organ, during the evening, making excellent music. Thus parsed the evening, long to be remembered until the tap of the bell, which told us the hour for retiring had come. "Well, you are a nice bo3 to send on a inetsage," said a woman to a boy who had lost a bundle with which she had entrust ed him. The boy struck the attitude of an orator, and replied: "Not being acorn, mon carrier, and not having entered into a contract with you to carry your parcel for and in consideration of any given sum, I have incurred no liability, and am liable o no penalty. If I had undertaken to carry the parcel for my own particular profit, my father even would not would not have been responsible for its loss (s-ec But. ler agt.
