Remember the baseball games for
the week, the Nebraska City Argos on
Thursday and the University of Min
nesota on Saturday.
The competitive drill on the campus
Saturday was very successful. The
crowd was large and enjoyed the con
test greatly. While company A car
ried off first honors, the others need

made. The university cadet battal
ion is an honor to the institution and
Commandant Brown Is to be com
mended upon the good showing made.
Company A is to be commended for
the manner in which it celebrated Its
victory. The old custom of painting
the company letter all over town was
abandoned. A carriage was secured
and the officers hauled about town in
a manner which could not be objected
to by any one. Captain Tukcy urged
his company not to use paint, and
should receive much credit for the
stand taken. Student celebrations are
nil right in their place, but they should
not be carried too far.
The game with Minnesota on next
Saturday will ho one of tho host of
the season. This Is our first hasehall
game with Minnesota, and we must
win. The showing of the team would
Indicate that wo can. We must do so
to even up things with Minnesota.
She won the football game after an ex
citing struggle, and won tho extempo
raneous oratorical contest. Wo, In
turn, won In tho short story prize and
must now have tho hasehall game.
Everybody In town should turn out
and see tho gume. Tho cadets will
be at camp. This makes It all tho
more necessary that every ono cIbo
turn out and root for tho Nebraska
hoys.

that there Is less done to promote the
best interests of debating In tho Uni
versity of Nebraska In theobatlng
association than there Is to promote
personal ambltons and to do tho other
sldo. Last year there was a long
drawn out struggle- Tho prime ob
ject for which tho Debating associa
tion was organized was thrown to ono
side, whllo the various factions shook
their' fists in each others' faces and
called hard names.
From appearances there will bo an
other spectacle this year. Whether
It will be long or as hotly contested
is a queston no ono can answer very
satisfactorily.
Under the present constitution it is
possible for ono faction or the other
to run in any number of outsiders by
paying twenty-five cents for each of
them. The faction that has the most
money or does the most hustling wins.
As a general thing these new "mem
bers" have never before taken the
slightest interest in the debates. If
there is a deficit n tho treasury they
are the ones to shirk. Of the men
who were run in last Thursday even
ing, it is safe to say that not one in
five attend a debate of the season
or contributed a cent towards the ex
penses. Last year the same state of
affairs existed. As long as the pres
ent arrangement lasts it will bo pos
sible for those men who haven't the
least interest in debating to run tho
affairs of the association and to dic
tate to its real supporters, no matter
to which faction they belong.
No sane person would for a moment
claim that this was just.
I am not an ardent factionist myself
and there are others who belong in
the same class. All I desire is to see
justice done.

dollars, fully paid in and divided into
three hundred ($300) shares of five
dollars ($5) each; tho term of exist
once of such corporation, fifty years
from the 1st day of May, 1001; the
highest amount of Indebtedness or lia
bility which such corporation is at
any time to subject Itself, six hundred
(ti00) dollars, and Its affairs are to bo
conducted by an editor-in-chief, busi
ness manager and a treasurer.
