The basket ball team has started
well by beating the Omaha Y. M. C. A.
on their own floor. This Is their first
game and we hope they will continue
tho pace set.
The Junior Prom has long been es
tablished as a university Institution
and should be .patronized as such,
iwery ono should be Interested in it
and make it an affair to which the
alumni will look forward as an event
in university life, which they must
attend.
Rumor reaches us that there is "a
movement afoot among the eastern
universities to bring about a national
encampment of cadets in the spring.
Such a thing is both probable and pos
sible and as we rank in numbers
among the I st schools our chances
are good.
The Pershing rifle company, officered
by the best meu of the battalion l
rapidly reaching perfection, luvery
member must have had at least onr
year of drill at the university or its
equivalent and as it is a voluntary
company greater interest is shown and
to hold an office is considered an honoi.
Recently a rumor has spreau that ttov.
Dietrich will call on tue University of
Nebraska for a company of cadets to
take part with him in the inauguration
of President McKinley. As it now is,
the position and merit of the Pe railings
would entitle them to that place.
Tho first of the final debates will bo
held on Friday evening and should
reeclvo patronage of the whole studentJ
body. The university during tho pres
ent year has added many laurels to its
list and should not miss an oppor
tunity to add more. Wo had the best
foot ball team in our history, our
basket ball team is making a good start
and now the debaters are preparing
for the coming contests. All possible
encouragement should be lent to thorn
The University of Nebraska should ex
cell in all things.
Tho story writing contest is another
event of interest which should be
pushed by all. Such things should be
permanently established and much
credit is due to those who aro trying
to do this.
