A mooting of the Engineering stu
dents will bo held on next Wednesday
night November 22, at Mechanic Arts
hall, to consider the adoption of a con
stitution for an Engineering Society in
tho University.
The Graduate Club will meet at the

Friday evening, November 23. All
graduate students and members of the
faculty are urged to attend.

The growing benefit of tho Y. M. C.
A. employment bureau Is evident
from the number of letters received
from students outsldo tho state who j
wish to attend the University and
work their way through school.
Up to November 9, fifty permanent
positions had been secured for stu
dents. The state convention of Y. M. C.
A. has been postponed to February.
The speakers desired could not be se
cured for tho regular time.
Last week was observed as a week
of prayer by the Y. M. C. A. This is
tho thirty-fifth year In which the cus
tom has been observed by the Y. M.
C. A. of this and other countries.
A football mass meeting will be
held next "Wednesday during the regu
lar chapel period. Dr. Roscoe Pound
will preside and addresses will be
made by Robert Anderson and Coach
Booth. The object of the meeting is
to arouse interest in the Minnesota
game. No one will be asked to pledge
a definite number of tickets but as
many as possible will bc put on sale
among tho students.
All students who have changed their
addresses lately will please leave no
tice of such change at the University
Y. M. C. A. rooms so that the stu
dents director' which will be publish
ed about December first may be as
complete and correct as possible.
SIGMA XI MEETING.
The Sigma Xi Society has arranged
to have the first one of its open meet
ings for the year in the Chapel on
Thursday evening, November 22. The
evening will be devoted to the Yellow
stone National Park. Professor Bar
bour who has made a careful study of
the geological and topigraphical fea
tures of the park will give the princi
pal address, illustrating it with a
number of fine lantern views, prob
ably the best of this region which
have ever been taken. The president
of the society. Professor Bessey, will
also give a brief talk upon the veget
able formation of the park, some cur
ious forms having been discovered in
this region, which will be especially
spoken of.
The meeting is open to the public,
a cordial invitation being extended to
all. The audience is requested to
come early, as it is desired fhat the
lecture should begin promptly at 8:15
at which time the lights will be
turned down making seating difficult.
PUBLIC SPEAKING.
All the clubs except the Maxwell
club have made arrangements for the
preliminaries to decide who shall be
their representatives to the Debating
Association. The preliminaries will
be held about the first of December.
About thirty men have so far signi
fied their intention of taVing part in
.the first contest. Iowa has been
heard from in regard to a debate with
her. It will be impossible to meet
her this year and she held out llttlo
hopo for next year.
Arrangements are well under way
for a joint impromtu oratorical and
story contest with Minnesota this
year. The suggested changes by
Mlnnoseta last year have been accepted
and definite settling of the rules gov
erning the contest will soon be made.
It has been thought best to limit the
LITERARY SOCIETIES.
The Unions gave an Elbert Hubbard
program last Friday evening. The
program was entertaining and in
structive throughout. Miss Alice
Sparks resigned her position as secre
tary as she expects to leave school
soon. Miss Margaret Maguire was
elected to succeed her. -Misse3 Stray
er, Robertson and Beard were elected
members.
The Delian program Friday evening
drew a large audience. Miss Lashiy
played a very pleasing piano solo and
Misses Marshall and Louch each fav
ored the audience with a vocal solo.
The Delians are making arrange
ments for two special programs in
the near future.
Among some of the feacures of the
Palladian program which deserve
mention were a production by Mr.
Kelley on "An Angle" or the "Moods
of a Girl" and a realistic reproduc
tion of sketches from "The Bonnie
Briar Bush" by Sam Anderson. The
Palladians will have a banquet on the
evening before Thanksgiving at which
they expect a large attendance of al
umni. They expect to make some im
provements in the hall in the near
future having set aside seventy-five
dollars for that purpose. The boys'
program will be rendered soon and the
girs are proceeding behind locked
doors and requiring pass words, signs
and grips.
