This is the first time such a thing has hap pened and it permits the use of much more advanced methods of work. Guy A. Joy and F. S. Hunt, seniors in the E. E. course have accepted posi tions with the Western Electric Co. of Chicago. They expect to return after a year's practical experience and finish their course. The work of placing the new boilers is rapidly progressing, but it will be several weeks yet before they will be ready for use. They will oe capable of furnishing one hundred and fifty horse power. An attempt is being made to have a debate with Iowa this year In place of the Colbrado debate which has been held heretofore. The fact that deba ters must travel so far and be at so large an expense in competing with Colorado Is the cause of this change. The department of psychology is the recelpent of several pictures of dis tinguished workers in the psychologi cal field. These pictures are to be framed and will adorn the walls of the laboratory soon. Mr. Cross, the landscape gardener has in consideration an improvement for the plot of ground in front of the library steps. Instead of having a design worked out in plants, he in tends to make It permanent by the use of white marble chips laid in eand or gravel. No design has as yet been deslded upon. At the meeting of the Freshman class Monday, October 15th, the man agers of the class teams were elected. Mr. Beard was elected manager of the track team and Murray Townsend football manager. The band has received a large assort ment of new music and now some of those time-worn pieces that have awakened -Che echos of the campus since time memorial, can be consigned to the waste basket. "Gemacht In Duetschland" and other legends adorned about twenty large packing cases" received by the University Friday morning. t These boxes comprised a consignment of chemicals and apparatus for the De partment of Chemistry. The marks on the outside showed that they came by the way of New Orleans, and were imported free of duty. This is the largest shipment received by the Uni versity for several years. The Electrical Engineering depart ment has just received a 50 kilowatt multiphase dynamo. It was built from the plans of Prof. Brooks, by the Gen eral Electric Co. of Schenectady, N. Y. It is capable of either 2 or 5 phase currents at various voltages and with the machinery alread in use makes the multiphase apparatus very complete. Nebraska will meet Grlnneil on the gridiron November 10. Grlnneil will try some new tactics this year by making ute of Princton methods. L. R. Palmer, for the past two years Princtoh's fleetest end man. has been secured to coach the GrinneJl team. When Nebraska and Grinnell meet it will be a case of ""Greek meets Greek' The work in the Animal Husbandry department under Prof. Burnett will b-j largely experimental thlsj'ear. One of the most Interesting experiments under wa' at present is the determina tion of the effect of different rations on sheep. Different lots are to be fed on four different grain rations, and two kinds of roughness,alfalfa hayand sorghum hay; part will be fed indoors and part outdoors. The grain, cost of feeding, and condition of the animals will be taken into consideration. The sheep are to be sold in Omaha and slaughtered; the flesh is to be tested in order to determine which food pro duces the best meat. J J ,.! o.S Mr i-?
