IiAKE GENEVA,
Ono of tho nrottlost summor rosortix
in thlb country Is Lako Gonovn.iri Wls
consm. Tho lako which is nljout ton
miles in length is a clear, sparking
body of water: Tho appearanco of tho
skiffs an they bob up and down on tho
waves is a most attractlvo Bight. Ail
along tho shores among tho truos are
tho summor residences, cottages, and
tents of tho pleasure seekers. Tho
largo cities along Lako Michigan fur
nish tho vacation visitors, who annu
ally como hero to rest up. Tho mag
nificence of somo of tho residences be
speaks tho immonso wealth which has
been lavishly spent for tho pleasure of
tho visitor. A small strip of land along
tho vest Bhoro of tho lako has been
purchased by tho Young Men's Chris
tian Associations. Horo they havo lo
cated their Training School. Tho ses
sion lasts for ton days. Last summor
there wore nearly five hundred stu
dents in attendanco Tho idea of these
gatherings originated with Mr. Moody
in his great conference which is hold
every summor at Northflold, Mass.
Now there aro four such gatherings in
tho country, tho ono just mentioned,
Ashovillo, N. C, Pacific Grove, Califor
nia, and Lako Geneva.
The location of tho camp is all but
ideal. The accommodations for tho
students aro largo tents. There aro a
few frame buildings and an auditor
ium on the campus. On tho hill just
behind tho camp is located the Yerkes
Observatory, a part of tho University
of Chicago. Near the Observatory is
tho athletic field, running track, and
tennis courts. But che purpose for
which this gathering is held is tho
deepening of tho spiritual life of col
lege men, to train them to become lead
ers in Christian work, and to lay bo
fore them tho fields of Christian ser
vico which aro open to them after grad
uation. Not only aro many quiet con
ferences held but there aro great as
semblies, in which speakers of great
worth and reputation present to tho
men the needs and duties of the hour.
Missionary institutes, personal inter
views and life work conferences are
some of the important features of tho
conference. Topics of vital interest to
all association men aro discussed and
those most experienced are present to
give advice. Last year there were men
present from a larger number of col
leges than over before and tho reports
show that this gathering has greatly
increased the effectiveness of the west
ern associations. All of tho time of
tho student is not taken up in attend
ing meetings for the entire afternoon
is devoted to recreation. Thero are ex
cursions to the hatcheries or to the
Observatory, boating, swimming,
water-polo, and field day sports to bo
enjoyed. Those who were members of
tho delegation from our own university
association can speak from experience
of tho good times which they enjoyed
thero last year.
Tho program for this summer's gatn
erlng will bo as strong as other years.
Those who attend can not fail to en
Joy a rich treat. No man can go to
such a place among such associations,
breath tho spiritual atmosphero of
deep consecration, and not come away
more fully determined to seek to do
tho Master's will.
