Miss Barr, with tho aid of her young

will bo as novol and instructive as

most Interesting event on tho program
will bo that given by a nuinbor of girls
who will perform some of tho "Gamla

must bo marked "failed." But tho

tho ones who are marked "lncomploto"

ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITIES.
An association of American univer
sities has recently been formed for the
purpose of giving a definite, final value
to university degrees and for raising
the scholarship of the college.
Today degrees mean very little.
The standards vary with each univer
sity and ono man may possess a cer
tain degree procured with little la
bor, while another may have slaved
and tolled many a long year for tho
sarno title. If thoro were a certain
degree, a B. A. or Ph. D. would mean
the same to all who possess them and
would become doflnlto and certain.
Tho plan of tho association is to
havo only those college members whoso
work is up to the standard required.
This of course will create opposition
from some of tho younger and Bmallor
institutions. But as tho association is
not hermetically sealed; it will bo a
competition In scholarship, and as
only worthy candidates will be re
ceived, scholarship will ultimately be
raised.
Tho association will request that no
foreign university admit "any Ameri
can student to the examinations for a
degree in philosophy, unless ho pre
sents a bachelor degree from an Amer
ican college or university" and it will
also consider tho "advisability of lim
iting tho institutions from which such
bachelor's degrees may be accepted."
Such a plan would obviously result
in a change in tho present method of
granting degrees. Every college will
strive to raise its scholarship and in
this way ontor tho association, and
h&vo its graduates at once recognized
by tho foreign universities. Cardinal.
