ord for December 21.
The advanced class in elocution
under Mrs. Manning has been reading
"Colomba's irthday."
The state horticultural society will
hold a three days' session in university
hall, beginning January 9.
Mrs. Wilson's class in the study ot
the novel will begin the study of
deorge Eliot next semester.
Chauncey F Warner, '99, has return
ed to the university and will enter the
law school after the holidays.
Edwin Markham, the author of the
Man with tho Hoe," visitou" the uni
versity last Monday afternoon.
An examination for those condition
ed in physics II and IV will be held
Friday, January 12, at 2 o'clock.
Allie Randolph, '9G, a teacher in the
Pipestone, Minn., public schools, called
on university friends Christmas.
The English club will meet with
M'ss Bertha Quaintance, 515 North
Thirteenth street, Saturday evening.
C. L. Countryman, '97, of Nehawka,
Neb., attended the stock breeders' as
soc'ation held in the chapel last week.
Miss Jean Tuttle, '98, who is doing
post-graduate work in Chicago univer
sity, visited in uincoln during the holi
days. The class in Hebrew, under Dr. Ayls
worth of Cotner university, is to be
dropped at the opening of the holiday
vacation. ,
Tho faculty woman's club is plan
ning to make some additions to the fur
nishings of the girls' parlor in univer
sity hall.
A. E. Henry, '98, A. M. '99, a fellow
In political economy in the University
of Wisconsin this year, spent the holi
days in this city.
W. H. Wagner, '82, superintendent
of tho public schools of Hebron, Neb.,
attended the meeting of the state teach
ers' association.
Dr. Sherman has consented to serve
as a judge of tho manuscripts to be
submitted by the seven orators repre
senting the colleges composing tho In
diana oratorical association.
Cecil C. Pugh, '99, who has been on
his Bheep ranch in Red Willow county
for the past year, stopped at tho uni
versity for a few days last wook while
on his way to his home at Hebron.
There are at present over thirty
graduate students taking their major
in English. Tho whole undergraduate
enrollment in this department is one
thousand, Ave hundred and fifty-six.
Mrs. WilBon, dean of women, has
been holding a series of conferences of
young women for now matriculates on
Saturday afternoons. Tho next one
will be held January 0 at 3 o'clock in
the young women's parlor, university
hall. The domestic science girls aro to
Borve chocolate and wafers.
