It Is n two-story brick structure, ono hundred and eight feet long by fifty-five foot wide. The exterior is of plain brick, but tho linos of tho building nro pleas ing. It will house tiio agricultural experi ment station and a portion of tho school of agriculture not already housed in tho dairy building on the farm. Tho ilrst lloor is for tho use of the oxperinient station and tho re mainder of the building is to be de voted to tho school. Connected with the building Is a greenhouse arranged so that students (an be taught tree setting and pruning during tin- winder months, when most of tho farm boys find it most conven ient to attend tho school. In the base ment of tho building and connecting with tho greenhouse are tho horticul tural work rooms, where budding and grafting are to bo taught, and where spraying machines ami other horticul tural implements can be examined. Upstairs are the various laboratories and class rooms. In the soil laboratory students will study the properties of soils as affecting crop production. In tho entomological laboratory they learn the life history and hab'ts of de structive insects, so that they may be nbV to combat them successfully. Sim ilar practical results are attained in the botanical and chemical laboratories. Tho first floor Is devoted to the offices and laboratories of the experiment sta tion. V 3 NKW EXPERIMENT STATION HUILDINU. erection of this building marks a new era In agricultural education in Nebraska. LECTURE ON THE PHILIPPINES. "The Philippines" is tho subject of the Illustrated lecture to be given in the chapel next Friday evening by Mr. George R. Boomer. Mr. Boomer was a member of tho famous "Fighting First." Ho carried a kodak with him in all the engagements of tho First Ne braska until he was wounded. "When ever opportunity offered he took views of Mantln, tho inhabitants, the engage ments with tho insurgents; the trenches filled with the dead and wounded, sol diers wndlng rivers, etc., etc. lie has in all three hundred views. Mr. Boomer has boon giving this lec ture over tho state for sovoral weoks and has succeeded well, as press re ports Indicate. The lecture will be given under the management of tho Palladlan literary society. It will be an opportunity for gaining information on tho Philippines and tholr people, and from ono who is able to present it in a clear and forcible manner. Mr. Boomer is an old university boy. Ariel of the Minnesota state university devotes a column and a half to "A Now Oratorical League," in yhich is tho sentence: "Those at tho head of the oratorical work at tho university are disposed to look with great favor upon the proposal by Nebraska." Missouri, although desiring to remain another year in her present leagues, will organ ize a local association in order to enter tho now league. Mr. Hyatt, president of tho debating association In Kansas university, was hero at the Kansas-Nebraska game and reported that the head of tho department of elocution and oratory in that institution was de cidedly in favor of tho new scheme, n;id that favorable action would likely bo takon.
