trough water. But some of the stu
dents havo seen the sky when they
heard somebody sing thoso melodious
German songs, now strong, patriotic,
as "Die Wacht am Rhelne," now a jolly
students' "Gandlamus," now a sad but
tender "Lorelei."
And tho students do not wish to live
In tho garret; they want to sing some
thing better than our only poor college
song, "Say, Oh Say," or better than the
yells. Let us have singing! Let every
class, every nationality hero repre
sented, every fraternity, every society,
have their singing clubs, glee club or
ladles' chorus. Thou wo shall enjoy
singing. Then wo shall see that tho
deep, clear water of the ocean is better
than tho trough water, oven if it be
changed every other day. Then wo
shall have genuine college songs, good
songs, . songs wo like to sing now as
well as. when our college days aro over.

NEW COURSE OF LECTURES.
Dr- Ellwood, lecturer on sociology,
announces a new course In the depart
ment of political and economic science
for the coming semester. He will give
a course on practical problems in so
ciology, especially on problems con
nected with charity and correction.
The lectures of the course will aim to
show what should be the method; of
treatment in dealing with the depend
ent, defective and criminal classes.
There will also be text-book study, the
text books used being Warner's "Amer
ican Charities" and Wines "Punish
ment and Reformation," the two stand
ard American works upon these sub
jects. References will also be made to
other works, especially to the writings
of the French and Italian school of
eriminalogibU?. Institutions in the vi
cinity will bo visited and thoir moth
ode studied. Three hours of credit yill
be given for the course, and tho lec
tures will probably be hold on Mon
days, Wednesdays and Fridays at 2
o'clock. A limited number of towns
people may be admitted to the loursc
upon consultation with Dr. Ellwood.

The. Twelfth Annual Course of Lectures will com
mence on the 19th day of September, 1800, and will
continue eight and one-half months. The course is
graded and covers a period of four years. Medical Hall,
the Laboratory of Medical Sciences, the Laboratory of
Medical Chemistry and the Laboratory of Anatomy are
situated upon the University campus. The clinical op
portunities afforded by the hospitals and dispensaries of
Minneapolis and St. Paul are at the command of the
College. For out-door clinical service a new clinical
building has been built in a central location.
