& ft- Ms? THE NEBRASKAN-HKSPERIAN. nro llho the wild duck who fattens In the garret as long as It does not see tho blue sky and the waves of the ocean. It Is satisfied with the dirty trough water. But some of the stu dents havo seen the sky when they heard somebody sing thoso melodious German songs, now strong, patriotic, as "Die Wacht am Rhelne," now a jolly students' "Gandlamus," now a sad but tender "Lorelei." And tho students do not wish to live In tho garret; they want to sing some thing better than our only poor college song, "Say, Oh Say," or better than the yells. Let us have singing! Let every class, every nationality hero repre sented, every fraternity, every society, have their singing clubs, glee club or ladles' chorus. Thou wo shall enjoy singing. Then wo shall see that tho deep, clear water of the ocean is better than tho trough water, oven if it be changed every other day. Then wo shall have genuine college songs, good songs, . songs wo like to sing now as well as. when our college days aro over. : S. When 6'er the golden summer of thy hair The silvery snows of time shall fall, And on the blushing roseleaf of thy checks Old age shall trace his envious scrawl ; When in the Trnpld azure of thine eyes The clouds shall gather, misty gray, Will all this passion in my heart for thee Growdim and old and pass away? Ah, no, for love abides in endless youth; Though years may come and years depart, Though youth-time pass and beauty fade away, Not so the graces of the heart; Though empires rise and turn to dust again, Anu nations crumble to decay, Above them all his deathless kingdom shines, And love forcer holds his sway.
