the university. Tho members read

pile a complete record of Nebraska
bird-life.

Commandant A. L. Brown requests
that all discharged members of any
United States organization In the
Spanish-American war or Filipino re

I. Norlcow, tho great Russian writer
on sociology, has written from Odessa
to Dr. Ellwood, secretary of the asso
ciated charity organization in Lincoln.
Ho congratulates Dr. Ellwood upon his
work ,and especially upoji his series of
articles, entitled "Prolegomonla of So
cial Psychology." This letter, coming
from so high an authority on social sci
ence, haB given great pleasure to Dr.
Ellwood.
Tho basket ball season will open
after Thanksgiving. Instead of an
Inter-olass schedulo of games as in
former seasons, th!s year a schedulo of
games will be arranged between tho
four classes In the unlvorslty. This is
cortainly a stop in tho right direction,
as it will lift basket ball up to the
standard of the Inter-clas3 foot ball
and base ball games, which are always
looked forward to with a great deal of
Interest by tho membors In tho differ
ent classes.
Dr. Green delivered tho first of a
course of lectures on insanity to tho
law students Wednesday. The courso
will continue two weeks with two lee
turos a week. It will be his aim to
glvo first a gonoral outl'.no of tho nerv
ous system. A discussion of Insanity,
its causes and its various degrees and
kinds will follow. This course will be
followed by a series of lectures by Dean

examinations aro now open to all un-der-graduates
who aro not registered
In tho regular gymnasium classes. The
hours for these examinations will bo
from 9 to 11:30 o'clock In tho morning
and 1:30 to 3 o'clock In tho afternoon,
and for thoso who find It Impossible to
moot tho examiner between thoso hours
spec'al appointments may bo made
with Dr. Hastings for examinations.
So far this season one hundred and
forty-one examinations have been
made, a very creditable record In this
department.
Sidney J. Kent, state statistician of
tho state labor bureau, recently do
nated to the state museum blue prints
of all the war vessels in our present
navy. These wero prepared by the
government for Mr. Kent and aro tho
best of their kind, sonic being twelve
feet long. They show with great ex
actness even tho minutest of details In
the construction of theso war vessels.
By request theso prints aro deposited
in the department of manual training
for the use of the students. In addi
tion there are somo relics from tho
Maine and from somo of tho famous
old vessels In tho rebellion.
