aozB h. i, THIS NBRASKAN-HESPBRIAN .J hi! 11 I - .1 ! ! ( 1 l I . r i . r . I IT r ' -I DEBATING CLUB MEETINGS. Tho meeting of the U. D. D. G. last Saturday night was attended by some forty young men, tho larger portion ot them being new students. The stand ing committees on joint debates were appointed. The proposition of tho Phi Kappa Delta society of deans to con tinue a series of contests with tho U. 13. D. C. was accepted. Tho question of the unnatural death of the Hesperian was vigorously dis cussed and a committee was appointed to Investigate the terms of consolida tion. Much sentiment was aroused against tho manner of closing out the Hesperian without authority from the association which elected the staff. The debating of the evening was very spirited. Tho affirmative of the question, "That senators should bo elected by direct vote of the people," was supported by Messrs. Cronin, H. A. Molr and others; the negative by Messrs. Nelson, Hawthorne and numer ous volunteers. Professor Pred Nims, principal of the schools of Odell and a 'former member, was present and made a very encouraging speech. The Dellan Boys' Debating club met for the first time this year Saturday evening, September SO. Forty old and prospective members were present. The committee on joint debates re ported favorably on the proposition ot a Doano club for a joint debate, to be hold about the first of November. Then, after discussion, the club de-l elded1 to continue its meetings in room 111, university hall, rather than ac cept the use of tho chapel under un certain tenure. After tho business before tho club was disposed of tho regular debate took place. Tho question discussed was, "Resolved, That the negroes in the United States should bo colonized within its borders." The leaders on tho affirmative wore Messrs. Sampson and Jones; on tho negative Messrs. Jones and Edgcrton. After a lively, forceful presentation of both sides of the question it was thrown open to the house and all participated. NOT A SURPRISE, it will not bo a surnrlso to any who are at all familiar with the good qual ities of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy to know that people everywhere take pleasure in relating their experience in tho use of that splendid medicine, and in telling of the benefit they have received from it, of bad colds it has cured, of threatened attacks of pneu monia it has averted, and of the chil dren it has saved from attacks of prnnn nnrl whoonlntr couch. It is a grand, good medicine. For sale by j druggists. i Wanted We will pay ?12.00 a week salary to either a man or woman to j represent the Midland monthly maga zine as a subscription solicitor.
