C. are going to have a legislature of their own next Saturday night. A bowling alloy has been established in thp gymnasium, and ton pins are now flying. The Pi Bota Phi sorority have issued invitations for p, party at the Lincoln hotel, February 14th. Clifton Piatt has come out in a spirited article in the Even ing Post on "Remorseless Imperialism." Miss Bertha Quaintanco has resigned as historian of the Senior class, on account of other business. Prof. Caldwell's class on Recent History is a largo one. It promises to bo a very interesting course. J. E. Boyle left the University this week to take the princi palship of Hardy schools, for a few months. Senior girls came out'n their caps and gowns, Monday. The boys greeted them with an inspiring yell. Miss Wallvoord visited her homo and friends in Hollond, last week, returning in time for work on Tuesday. A portion of the next two weeks will bo given to prepara tion for the Charter Day indoor atholotic exhibition. A special 5 o'clock training class has boon arranged for men entering the indoor pentathlon which occurs in March. The number of students registered for physical training during the past week, already exceeds that of last summer. American History VI promises to be a very interesting course. It will deal with the recent problems in American History. The basket ball team will go to Omaha, February 10th to play the Omaha team. Practice will bo resumed in the gym nasium as soon as the screen is placed in front of the organ. Mr. Flomming, one of the U. B. D. 0. boys, who was to have represented the club at Crete in tho.dobato next Satur day night, is sick with the measles. 0. B. Craft will be sub stituted in his place. i - Mr. Lamport has returned from his services in the Philip pines, in the First Regiment, lie appreciates the value of his varied exporionco in the tropics but was delighted to get back to the University, and sniff the breezes of Nebraska again. Next Saturday at 4: p. m., two preliminary contests will come off in tho gymnasium. One is for the horizontal bar jump and the other for tho running high kick. The throo remain ing preliminaries are the fence vault, standing hop stop and jump, and standing high jump. That tho interest taken in athletics among tho University students has greatly increased during tho past yoar, is shown by tho following figures: From September 1891 to Septom bor 1894, 360 students applied for physical examination; from'Septomber 1894 to September 1897, 313 took the ex amination; from September 1897 to September 1898, one year, 245; and from September 1898 to January 1 1899, 251. Of tho latter number, 165 ordered tho anthopomotric charts.
