THE HESPERIAN. !"i: i y WEEKLY JOURNAL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA. Vol. XXVIII. LINCOLN, NEBRASKA, OCTOBER 28, 1898. No. 7. MEMORY BOUND. The dream of an idle summer, The tinge of a light romance For ships that meet mid-ocean Salute on the broad expanse; But the trifling heart may languish Though sundered the ties that were, By years, dull years, and distance Tonight I am thinking of her. A violet here, a red rose there, A blooming garden yonder But flowers are easy enough to blight What though the days grow yonder The pale moonlight through the latticed porch, Swift words, set lips, a blur But out in the world's own darkness, Still I am thinking of her. And whether I tread the tropic glades Where constant summer bides, Or whether among the thousand isles My shallop noiseless glides, Or whether I lose myself amid The pine and tow'ring fir, Or whether I wake or whether I sleep I am thinking and dreaming of her. Jewell College 0 Missouri 0 Benedict played his usual brilliant game, making repeated ten, fifteen and twenty yard gains around the end. The first three touch-downs were made and goals wore kicked in just eighteen minutes of play. The JewellB braced np in the latter part of the gamo and broke through Nebraska's line repeatedly. Monday Nebraska won easily from Missouri at Colum bia. The score of 4:7 to 6 tolls the story of another one-sided game, with the playing in Missouri's territory. Missouri made her only score in the first ten minutes of play. Never afterward during the contest was there any danger of a larger score for Missouri Nebraska played fast ball and Erwin was sent over the Missouri line three times, Benedict twice, Kings bury, Pillsbury and Stringer once each. Erwin crashed through the Missouri line for good gains repeatedly, while Benedict made great gains around the end.s. Kingsbury, Pillsbury and Stringer made good gains. Nebraska put up good team work and fine interference. This game is the first one in the league series and Nebraska has startcu well as a pennant winner. Iowa has been playing loose ball and there seems to be no danger of defeat from that quarter. Kansas, however, comes up with her usual boastings and claims victory already. It is safe to predict that Nebraska will put forth her best effort to win at Lawrence. The games with Grinnell and Drake that are to be played on the home grounds promise to be interesting ones. Both of these clubs have good teams. Drake defeated Iowa recently, and Grinnell beat Minnesota without much trouble. LAST SATUUDAY's BCOEE.
