SPANISH WAR NOT .IN IT.
I'm glnd the war is o'er,
For it was a trifle tame
To the fellow who has witnessed
The Kansas football game.
Why I'm here
I laid aailde my Waterman,
Not many moons ago,
And volunteered my services
For Uncle SalnU's sftxow
But Dewey said he'd hold the bay
And Schley could watch the bottle
While Shatter thought he had a grip fm
On General Toral's throttle
And Hobson, Blue and other braves ) Ls
Who shook the dice with slaughter ' .' . J '. ' a
Suggested that this was my place
And stay right here I'd oughter.
They vowed to watch the whole frontier
Of Uncle Sam s domain,
And spill enough of Spanish blood
To float our sunken Maine.
But 'twas my place, like Col. Bix
Upon the grave of speck,
In case the ghost of Epes should rise,
To be right here on deck.
And so I've followed duty's voice,
Despite the dangerous rood,
To stand by all our past cammpaigns i?jf 1 ' f ' f ")
And reap what we have sowed.
