Prof. A. 11. Hill associate professor of ex
perimental psychology comes to us highly
recommended. He received the degree of B.
A. at Dalhousic College Xovia Scotia, where
he won fii"st honors and received the Gover
nor General's prize. He specialized at Cor
nell where he got a Ph. 1). After spending
some time in Germany he taught in the Wis
consin State Normal at Oskosh and lectured
throughout the state.
Dr. Win. W. Hastings, the new physical
director, took his first degree A. R. at Mnry
ville College. Tenu.. in 1SS(. He received
an honorary degree A. M. from the same col
lege in "J)2. He took his second A. M. at
Haverford College i)4 and Ph. 1). at the ramie
school in '!)(5. Dr. Hastings spent one year
teaching at Haverford. His physical training
was taken at the International Traininjr
School, Springfield. With such a cultured
and all'ahle man at the head, athletics and
physical training will reach a plane never he
fore realized.
Mr. S. R. Cook, who received a fellowship
in the department of Physics, is a graduate
of the "University of Michigan. He took his
degree M. S. from that institution last .June.
Mr. Cook is a 3'oung man but one need only
meet him to see the student and the scholar.
Professor C. F. Ansley who has heen with
us before will he assistant professor in English
Literature and have charge of the English
department. Before coining here he taught
at Swedonia. Illinois and it was owing to the
death of his father that he left the university.
Miss Clara Conklin is associate professor of
Romance Languages. She has heen teaching
in the univei-sity five years and the promotion
is the outcome of faithful and competent work.
- Mis. E. L. Hinman is the daughter of
Pros. Hamlin, founder of Robert College.
Constantinople. She received a Ph. D. at
Cornell and has since taught at a summary in
Holyokc, Massachusetts. At the university
she will be assistant in the psychology labor
atory. Prof. J. W. ("rabtircc, formerly principal of
the Ashland schools and Hast year principal of
the Beatrice high school as inspector of the ac
credited high schools of the state.
HESPERIAN
R. E. Chandler is the new instructor in
machine design and mechanical drawing. He
has been a student in the Hoboken School of
Technology and teacher in mechanical engi
neering at the state college of Montana. He
comes here with a degree of M. E. from Cor
nell. F. G. Franklin, a graduate of Kansas Uni
versity and fellow in American History at.
the Chicago University, will teach in the
American History department.
1. S. Snoddy, from Pennsylvania, will teach
English and have charge of forensics.
Miss Edna Bullock will be chief cataloguer
with Miss Wing as assistant.
A. W. Whiting Ph. D., Chicago Uni versity.
will instruct in mathematics.
Dr. (lurnsey .Tones, the new instructor in
European History is a brother of Will Owen
Jones, a graduate of the University of Califor
nia and of Hiedelbutg. He passjd four years
at Heidelburg. where he worked under Win
kelmann and Erdmannsdorfer. The thesis
for his doctor's degree was "Diplomatic Re
lations between Cromwell and Charles X.
Gustavus of Lovcdcn."' The preparation of
this work called for frequent visits to England
where Dr. Jones made the acquaintance of
Dr. Gordiun. the distinguished English his
torian, of Mr. Moeray who is known for his
work upon the Cromwallian period. Copies
of the thesis weres.'nt to these gentlemen and
called forth very kindly acknowledgment.
The past year Dr. Jones was a leciurer in
history at Swathmore College, Pa. His work
here will be upon the Reformation of the.
Middle Ages and he will also asuist Prof.
Caldwell In American history.
