The number present readied about seventy five.Roscoe Pound was elected president; Mary Fossler, vice-president; Alice Hun ter, secretary; I. H. Hatfield, historian. Ohancellor MacLean gave a short talk on the significance of the club and its largo membership during the first year of its existence. No better argument could be given to'tho people of Nebraska in behalf of the University than that it is thus growing at the top. Miss Bou ton discussed in a popular way the discovery of the two new ele ments Argon and Helium. Prof. John son gave some reminiscences of a trip in (Tcrmany. Dean Edgren's subject was "The Historical Dictionary" ami Mr. Pound reviewed the discussion on Botan ical nomenclature. The program was fol lowed by a pleasant social period during which timerefreshments were served. Miss Myrtle Wheeler will teach history in the Omaha High School next year. Prof. Wolfe's definition of a wasp's sting a real intense touch. Miss Burrows and Mr. Keedy resigned from the staff last week. The Palls, elected 15. B. Perry and tho Delians, J. H. Sayer to fill the vacancies. C. C. Griggs and H. E. Keagan were initiated into the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity Friday evening. Both are young men of excellent scholarship and good character. The Siginas are to be congratulated. Mr. Ed. Friezell, of Pittsburg spent a day at the Uni. with S. Y. Pinkortou. Mr. Friezell is an all-round athlete and won many championships in eastern con tests during his college days. Ho and Sam used ro play "hookey1' together in 11k Smokv Pit v. Misses Case, Schwartz and McMillan and Mrs. Crowitt have volunteered to teach at tho college settlement. The matter of having their pictures in the Annual was presented at tho three societies last Friday evening. The pro position was received favorably in cucn society. It is rumored that the law faculty will recommend to the Maxwell club, tho establishment of a board for the compul sory arbitration of all "barb"-"fraf difficulties. As there will be but few students in town during the holidays it is hoped that those who do remain will atten 1 the Y. M. C. A. mission at 9th and Z. The ser vices are held at 7 o'clock Sunday even ings. The Y. M. 0. A. will send out two evangelistic bands during the ClirWnm holidays. One composed of Messrs. "W. T. Elmore, J. F. Stoltz, R. A. Campbell, J. H. Sayer and Mr. and Mrs. McMkdial. This band will go to Sterling. The other composed of D. M. Davis, P. II. Thom son, W. .J. Hunting and C. J. Allen, w to Staplehurst. These bands will hold meetings every evening in the towns named. The Palladian Boys debating club elected the following officers Saturday evening: Gr. 13. Kindlcr, president; H. 0. Sutton, vice-president; L. W. ?Y' son, secretary and J. S. Smoyor, the re" tiring president, sergeant-at-anns. The president and vice-president were elected by acclamation.
