at Schuyler for several days past. Mr.
Robbing has conducted his recitations.
Arthur C. Mayer, who will be remem
bered as having Avon the prize for tho
best thesis last year, is now taking post
graduate work in Yale.
Wo understand that Mr. Miller has re
covered from a severe attack of rheuma
tism brought on by a chilly reception
from his best girl Thanksgiving.
Saturday night the Maxwells discussed
the right and expediency of tho U. S.
recognizing tho Cuban rebels as belliger
ents. Sackott. and Keram claimed wo
should, while Warfield and Jones denied
it. We believe the debate was tho most
creditable held so far this year. The time
for extemporaneous speaking was devot
ed to the election of officers for the second
term. After an hour of rather undigni
fied wrangling, Abbott and Green gath
ered in the presidential and vice-president
dential plums. The janitor forced a
precipitous adjournment under the spe
cious plea that the lights must be out at
ten-thirty. The question for next meot
ing is "Resolved: that the Wilson bill is
inadequate."
Tho cloak room is opened and the days
of the hat thief are numbered.
Mrs. Sawyer lectured, as announced,
lo the Political Economy Club Tuesday
evening.
Tho Animal Dairy exhibit will be in the
Armory next Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday.
The Physic Journal Club met last Mon
day evening. Dr. B. E. Moore reported
on tho original work he is doing.
A short biographical sketch of tho late
Prof. Charles Lee Ingersoll has been writ
ton by Dr. Bossoy and is now in print.
Mrs. Manning's classes will give an en
tertainment in tho Chapel Dec. 17. One
of tho numbers will be a farco by John
Kondrick Bangs, "A Chafing Dish Party-
Leopold Godowsky, tho famous Rus
sian pianist will give a recital in tho Uni
versity Chapel Saturday evening, Dee.
12th, under tho auspices of the School of
Music.
Competitors for tho annual prize can
have their stories type-written at tho rate
of 25 cents per thousand, by handing
thorn to tho Annual Board. Stories mint
be in by Jan. 15.
Tho class in Journalism were required
to write editorials on tho president's mes
sage, and many of tho unsophisticated
journalists went to work and read the
message ( ! ) before passing judgement
upon it.
Mr. Studd, met with tho Volunteor Y.
M. and Y. W. C. A. Tuesday night. A
very profitable hour was spent. He also
spent an hour with some of tho boys
afterward. Ho left for Dos Moines Wed
nesday morning.
Tho new caps and chevrons have come
and the battallion is now in full uniform,
ffhere will be a dross parade Friday after
noon. Tho battallion flag, of scarlet and
cream silk with the letters ''J. N." will
be a now feature.
