Athletics.
Kobinson of Brown, who played full
back on the team that tied Yalo last year
will coach the learn.
Mow suits and new sweaters have ar
rived for the team.
Team practice every day at 4 o'clock
on the campus.
Pearse, the new candidate for center
rush is showing up well and will give
Melford a hard push for his place.
Among the new candidates for places
are Cowgill, Langworthy, Lowrv, Dou
brava, Cook, Birch, Herbert, Phitz, Tur
ner, Fitzgerald.
Turner has resolved to play and has
two tailors at work on a special suit to
insure size. He has himself trained
down to 223 pounds.
Whipple will not play this fall.
Slmo has left for homo and will not
bo able to play.
A quantity of new apparatus for light
gymnastics has been received by the de
partment. It, consists mostly of barbells
dumb belb and Indian clubs. There are
also a number of now mats for parallel
bar work.
Dr. Clark is busy now making physical
examinations. Poor-ball men are re
quired to, and all others are requested to
take an examination.
.The hygiene work will be somewhat
enangedthis year. Some of the lecture,
Avi be omitted and more reference work
will bo roqiiired.

will soon arrive. He has boon working
in Butte City this summer and is in lino
condition for playing.
The Athletic Association is in much
hauler condition financially than it was
last year at this time, but with the aid of
students, faculty and business men, the
management hopes to get affairs on a.
sound basis. It is believed that $200
can bo raised from among the students,
and $250 from the faculty. Committees
have been appointed from among the stu
dents to solicit funds and when you are
asked to subscribe and can't give $5.00
give what you can if it isn't more than a
dime.
The Junior Annual.
The .annual board wish to say that
they are all on hand and ready for work.
The managers are confident of success.
The meetings of the board are well
attended and full of enthusiasm. This
is a great year for the University and for
Nebraska. The class oi: ')8 propose to
celebrate it by outdoing all past efforts
of former classes. In the characteristic
phrase of an ex-journalist of the Univer
sity, "The Sombrero" for '98 will smoke
for years to come.
It will be ready for circulation about
March 15. University organizations ex
pecting to be represented in the Annual
will do well to get their material in
readiness as soon as possible.
The managers wish to repeat their of

The contest will bo decided by com'
potent judges soon to be selected. The
poem and story taking second places will
be published.
It is hoped that many students will
compete.
