Miss Maud Triplett is now teaching in tho
public school of Clinton, Missouri. Miss
Triplett is also rapidly coming to bo recog
nized as a leader in musical circles in Clinton.
Saturday evening, February 8, Miss
Katharine Melick entertained the English
club at the residence of her uncle on east P
street. Miss Melick's reputation as a charm
ing hostess was more than sustained, every
one enjoyed themselves. The program was
unusually good.
The joint debate between Doano college
and tho Union boys debating ulub, will be
held in the chapel February 22. The ques
tion for discussion is, "Resolved, that the
contract entered into by the present adminis
tration in last Febrnary, with the so-called
bond syndicate was justifiable. Messrs.
Maguire, Boomer, Snrson and Lion will
defend the negative.
There was quite a spirited debate in tho
U. 13. D. 0. last Saturday night in regard
to tho constitutionality of a ticket elected at
the previous meeting. Several very good
speeches ware made for and against the
ticket. Parliamentary rules were frequently
called up to settle disputed questions. After
a strong discussion of the matter tho tickot
was declared illegal. They then proceeded
to the election of now officers who were as
follows: President, P. J. Maguire; vice
president, Mr. Strain ; secretary, L. E. Mum
ford; attorneys, Messrs. H. E. Wilson and
Harding; sargcant-at-arms tho retiring pres
ident, J. W. Scnrson.

Kinsman & McCleod, tho law-book firm
of Omaha, has offered Pomeroy's Equity
Jurisprudence as a prize for the best thesis.
It consists of three volumes and is valued at
$18.
It is rumored that "Dad" Coleman has
taken up his rosidonce at University Place.
Some of tho boys received a practical
illustration of woman's rights at the Max
well club last Saturday night.
Tho class in Riparian Rights holds its first
meeting next Friday. This study was added
to tho course this year as an elective.
At the January examination boforo the
supreme court of Iowa there were forty-one
applications for admission to the bar.
The examination consisted of one hundred
written questions with four hours oral quiz.
J. M. Admundson ranked first and Wm,
Mentzer second. They arc both graduates
of this department and Mr. Edmundson's
grade was tho highest ever received before
the court of Iowa.
The eight annual contest of the University
oratorical association was held in the chapel
last Saturday evening. Tho lower part of
the chapel was fairly well filled when Presi
dent Barr called tho association to order.
Messrs. Alexander, Pinkerton, Sumners,
Edgerton, Quaintanco und Abbott were tho
orators. The judges gave Mr. Pinkerton,
first place and Mr. Quaintanco second. Mr.
Pmkorton will represont tho university in tho
state contest which will bo hold at Doano,
tho 20th of March, and Mr. Quaintanco will
bo chairman of tho delegation to tho state
convention held at Doano tho samo day.
The Junior class may woll prido them
selves on arranging and carrying out tho
most successful ball in University history.
Tho Junior promenade hold last "Wednesday
night in the Hotel Lincoln was an idoal
social affair. Tho program composed twenty
two numbers of which the jocular two-stop
was most conspicuous. Tho grand march
was led by President Morrill, of tho board
of regents and Mrs. MacLoan. Delicious
ices wero servod throughout tho evening.
