THE HESPERIAN
conflict impossible. To be sure the in
structors are obliged to make out extra
examination questions, but what is that
as compared with the many advantages
to both students and instructors.
The petitioned meeting of the oratori
cal association was an interesting and
enthusiastic one. It was decided by a
strong majority for the university to re
main in the state association. If there
wore any possibility of forming an asso
ciation with several of the state institu
tions around us, it would be advisable
for us to withdraw from the association
of which we are now a member. It seems
impossible for us to form any such rela
tions now and the only thing for us to
do is to remain in the state association.
If we should withdraw with nothing to
substitute, t ho local contest would be a
fare, nw what little interest there is in
orutoricnl matters would cease. Wes
leyun we understand, wishes to re-enter
the association, and with a little judic
inis work we might bring back some of
the old-time enthusiasm in oratory,
fliere is a place for oratory in the uni
versity of Nebraska and with that place
a most noticable need. We have thus
tar, held our own in debate but we pre
dict thut we shall hardly be so successful
M the future unless we try to make our
address pleasing as well as logical. Let
s awake to our needs, revive thelagging
interest in oratorical contests, and prove
tat wo intend to "talk (tolerably .aswdll
as logically.
