One of tho happiest local events in Uni versity circles this year, was hold at tho Lin coln hotel Thursday evening of Charter week, when tho Juniors and their friends, about seventy couples in all, met to enjoy tho annual Junior promenade. The young folks claimed the freedom of the entire second floor, and they pretty nearly filled it. The west dining hall, deco rated with various fraternity and society em blems, made a very pleasant room for danc ing, while the Stato Band Orchestra furn ished such music ns makes the lover of tho dance happy. It was nearly nine o'clock when tho grand march was begun. It was led by the Chan, collor and Mrs. Morrill, followed by tho patrons and members of the faculty. Only onco are you a junior, and only once in that year do you indulge in a promenade, a fact which each individual present seemed to appreciate that night. It was one of tho jolliest affairs evor known in tho history of tho University, and ' when the party broke up there seemed to be a paucity of adjectives in the English lang uage to express everybody's opinion of it. all joined in a grand march, after which amusements of various kinds wore taken up. Tho committee on entertainment did their part so well that tho evening was enjoyed by all. But it was Saturday night, and promptly at twelve o'clock the lights woro turned out, abruptly ending the pleasures of the evening. And so onco more the dissi pations of the Charter Day season are over. LOCAL. THE SOCIETIES' RECEPTION. By no means tho least enjoyable of tho many events of Charter Day week was the joint reception of tho literary societies given at the Nebraska Conservatory of Music Sat urday evening, Fob. 1G. Coming as it did, at tho close of an over-crowded week, some foars woro entertained for its success, but it proved to bo the crowning event of tho week. Tho music hall was crowded with a throng of happy students who gave no evi dence from Choir actions that they had been celebrating for several days. Representatives of tho different societies received tho guests in tho parlors on tho first floor and adorned them with the colors of their respective societies. At nine o'clock Geo. Davies is back in school again. Elisabeth Russel joined the Union Febru ary 22. Lulu Burrow has been visiting her brother in Filley. The Sophomore class commoncodTJalculus this weok. Mr. Peterson was taken into tho Delian Society February 22. Tho Palladian membership readied seventy-five last Friday. Professor Fling was on tho sick last weok. His classes missed him. Q,The cadets will appear in white trousers ou dross parade hereafter. A large audionco filled Union Hall at tho musicalo Friday evening. Tuesday, March 4, tho Sophomores and Freahmen gave their joint reception. Prof. Wilson occupied tho pulpit of tho First Baptist church last Sunday evening. Miss Bessie Gahan, a former University student, spent tho past two weeks in' Lincoln. The Shakespeare Club met at tho Conser vatory February 25th. Mr. Williams spoke. March 8th, the Unions will give a "Ghost program, ".which promises to bo decidoly ghostly.
