Will you oblige him by pay ing your subscription without waiting to be called upon? There is entirely too much "swiping" going on in the University and we believe it our duty to mention it. There is no one so" mean, so little, so low, so despicable, so con temptible, as the sneak thief; beside him the highway robber is a gentleman and a scholar, and the murderer a model of all manly vir tues. That counterfeit of man who walks on two legs and makes a business of sneaking abound and appropriating the hats, caps, rubbers, mufflers and books of students could find no crime so vile that he would hesitate at its performance. One sneak thief can da moralize a thousand honest men quicker than, all the other imps of Satan combined. Ais a thief; he "swipes" B's hat from the hook and glides away. B comes to go home, no .hat; he can't go bare-headed, in nine cases out of ten, however honest he be, he takes C's .hat; C takes D's, and so on down. If the B's, G's and D's and the rest of them could simply catch A once, pile upon him, and exterminate him, this department of The Hesperian will agree to contribute its mite cheerfully and willingly toward defraying his funeral ex penses. The Hesperian regrets that the debating association has met with so many difficulties and discouragements up to this time; it re- grets that the preliminary debates y.r4$p. poorly attended, and that so many .wW jjjgW; tered for these debates "pulled out ''.Weq not'jntcnd'to scold the students for pot ,fa in M; mi Ml I VI n
