THE HESPERIAN IS frescoing a largo hall when times are as hard as they are now, and the Unions deserve great credit for their snap. The retiring officers of the Palladian So ciety tendered the incoming officers and the maindor of the society a very pleasant re ception in their hall Thursday evening, the 4th. The Tuxedo Mandolin Olub furnished the music. The Nebraska teachers who attended the Association meetings during vacation en joyed themselves greatly, if one could judge from appearances. Prof. Wolfe and his as sistants amused the crowd with their psyco logical playthings down in the laboratory. Tom H. Boys, come here, quick! Jim has fainted. Boys Oh, what is the matter? Tom Why, he just got his registration card filled out and put in the mail-box and then he keeled right over. If the Senior gowns were only white, what an angelic impression the Senior girls would make with those wings and ilowing skirts. Now, about all one can think of when he sees a Senior girl come floating, sailing down the hall is a Sister of Chanty. Through the kindness of Mr. O. B.Polk, an aluminus of the University, the winning or ator of the local contest will wear a gold medal. Mr. Polk, while in school, was a Palladian, and his interest in oritorical work has never ceased.' The Association extends its thanks to Mr. Polk for his gift. Are the courses in . the University not broad enough? Are the Prof.'s incompe tent, or is it some great "attraction that is drawing our students to the neighboring schools? Wo understand that Weaver is lecturing on "Foot Ball" at Wesley an, and Shue is "posting" at the Lincoln Normal. Tho first meeting of the Y. W. 0. A. for the new year was one of unusual interest. Misfe Troman led, taking for her subject "Tho Old Year and the Now." A solo beautifully rendered by Miss Nellie Griggs added pleasure to tho meeting. Tho new music committee has arranged to provide special music for all regular meetings. Tho Union Society elected the following officers for tho present term. President J. W. Searson. Secretary Miss Eva O'Sullivau. Treasurer Mr. Allen. Critic Miss Hunter. Sergeant-at-Arms Mr. Thayer. The following officers were elected by the Palladian Society for the present period: President G. I. Babcock. Vice President Miss Treat. Recording Secretary Miss Etta Gray. Cor. Secretary Miss Grace Thompson. Mus. Secretary Miss Myrtle Wheeler. Treasurer R. P. Teele. Critic Miss Maude Hammond. Sergeant-at-Arms Hugh Walker. At a meeting of the local Oratorical Asso ciation, hold before the holidays, the follow ing officers were elected: President G. F. Fisher. Vice President L. C. Oberlies. Secret ary -Treasurer Chas. Jones. The delegation appointed to represent the University at the State Oratorical Conven tion are Messrs. R. Graham, A. J. Weaver, E. A. Gerrard, C. W. Weldon. Tho chair man of this delegation will be the orator winning second place in the local contest. The business managers of the Sombrero have decided to give a prize of 10 for the best story, and a prizo of 10 for tho best poom handed in on or before March 1st.
