Hon. C. F. Scott delived, last Friday morning,
before the students in chapel, the third lecture in
the "Chancellor's course." His subject was,
" Last of the Confederates," and was a descrip
tion of Gen. Jo. Shelby's expedition to the Rio
Grande. In his introductory remarks the speaker
referred to Kansas and Nebraska as twin sisters
and hence the children of both states are closely
related. He spoke ot the great University they
have down in Kansas and rather thought we
were very hard hearted to go down there and
rob them of their professor to make him our chan
cellor. Mr. Scott referred his hearers to the book
called, "Shelby's Expedition" for a full treatise
of the subject in hand. Much of the lecture was
taken from that book, sometimes copied from the
author, at other times in the speaker's own words
and all the time most interesting. The way
the speaker brought out the climaxes was admira
ble, just saying enough to make it forcible, and
force the mind to the hearer to supply in his
imagination, the details. The Chancellor's lec
ture course is something new in the University,
but already has proved a success.
