The Manic Departaaeat.
On Wednesday evening, December 16, 1S91, the depart
of music, aided by Mr. and Mrs. Wurzburg, of this city, gave
a very interesting and appropriate Mozart concert. With
the exception of one number, the performers were all stud
cnts of Mr. and Mrs. Mcnzcndorf. Roth chorus &nd orches
tra also showedlhe benefit of hard work on the part of their
leaders. It was the twenty-first recital given by the depart
ment and as usual the chapel was crowded. The following
was the program :

Professor Hussey spent vacation preparing lectures on

Professor Hunt was kept close at home during the hoi:- 'J

Mr. Bates spent at the university what leisure time he had
moving, and taking caie of a cold left him. j
Professor Wolfe dodged in and out of his room frequently.
He read a paper before the State Teachers' Association on
the -"Philosophy of Education."
Chancellor Canfield, as any .observer -would say, look no
vacation.
Miss Moore seemed lo give her whole lime to the art
exhibit.
Professor Sherman made the Euglish literature room his
headquarters.
Professor McMillan, Miss FJoience Smith, and MissGieeii
-did not slight the library.

The train on which Mr. J. C. Graham and Mr. Shue
relumed lo school fiom Stella nan owly escaped wrecking.

Harry Barber, in the absence of Professor Bruncr, did
special -work in the etymological department.
Mr. Barkley had charge of the dynamo during vacation,
and furnished light at the Armory for the art exhibit.
Profesbor Fulmer visited his home at Gibbon.
Mr. Ransom who left cJiool two years ago has begun
work in the 'law and night schools.
Mrs. Mnnz-endorf went home lo spend the holiday eason,
Mibs Dempster spent a few .days at her home xX Geneva
and relumed in time lo attend the meeting of the teachers.

Professor Fling went cast on a vacation trip.
McFarland, Suddith, Cullom, Matthews, DingeS, and
others skated to their hearts' content.
Miss Jeanellc Wilson entertained her brother, Amasa Wil
son, of Denver, during holiday week.
Mr. Cooley, fromNeligh, returned to school December 30.
Mr. Rhodes, on account of the illness of his father and
mother, spent the tin-t part of his vacation at home.
T. Rruggcr returned, December 30, from spending his
vacation at home.
The chancellor helped to organize, during vacation, the
gamma, upsilon, iota, delta, epsilon society. The object of
the society was to guide the travelers about the buildings.
Messrs. Coleman, Shue, and Mosher did most of the work
in arranging the art exhibit.
Professor Wjghtman took a trip during vacation. He was
as far east as Washington and Baltimore.
Mr. Ivchmer's brother from Ord came to sjwnd the first
week ol the new car.
Mr. Culver was on the sick list for a few days.
N. 11. Barr was the guest of Mrs. Tucker, 2003 G street,
on Christmas day.
Mr. Keim ate his Christmas turkey away from home the
first time December 25, much against his will and contrary to
expectation. A letter with a specirl delivery stamp whch
reached lincoln December 24, laid in the office until the 26th
and kept him in Lincoln two days too long.
W. 1.. Westerman spent the larger part of his vacation at
Grand Island.
Nusz, Abbott, Westerman, Pillsbury brothers, and other
university boys beat the Grand Island foot ball team. Decern-

Gillespie and the World's fair attended ihe teachers' asso-

Sawyer worked at the power house of the Lincoln Street
J Railway Companj.
Mr. Strode went lo 1 ilchfield, Nebraska, lo complete his
-vacation.
Miss Chappel visited at Cotner.
G. F. Fisher wrote themes until January I and ihen
bummed.

Dr. Gelger is still confined at home by illness.
Profehsor Wolfe is now a full-fledged professor.
Mits Hallie Hardin spent ihe vacation in St. Iouis.
M. S. Pickle is night manager at the 1- D. T. office.
Mr. Coleman has recovered from an attack of lonsllitis.

Professor Howard plays center field and sometimes
pitches at Leland Stanford.
About twenty couple of university people spent a very
enjoyable evening at Temple HalL January 9. Social chats,
card playing, and dancing were the features of the evenlug.
