EDITORIAL NOTES.
Will instruction in boxing and fencing be given
this year? Quite a number of students are anxiously
awaiting the decision, which, if it is in the negative,
will be a sore disappointment to them.
We wish to correct an error that occurred in the
last issue of The Hesperian. Professor Ingersoll
comes to us from the chancellorship of the agricul
tural college at Fort Collins, Col., instead of coming
from the University of Colorado. The agricultural
college at Fort Collins is one of the best agricultural
schools in the country.

We are extremely glad to announce that at last
the athletic association has been completely and rad
ically reorganized. Out of the chaos of former
rules and traditions a good constitution has been
adopted, and the affairs of the association have been
put upon a much firmer financial basis. The sys
tematic work in track athletics will improve our work
in track athletics, and with our foot ball and base
ball teams in constant practice we will soon be
ready to meet the teams of institutions like the Min
nesota state university or the R. S. U. Just wait 'til
we get at 'em.
The opening of the law school marks an important
event in the history of the University of Nebraska.
Its faculty is composed of some of the ablest lawyers
of the West. This department is thoroughly organ
ized and will compare favorably with any of the law
schools of the West. A small tuition fee of $35 per
year is charged in order to defray the incidental
expenses of the department, which fee, although
small, will in time perhaps be dispensed with. The
importance of such a department in the univers
ity is evident to every one, for it affords an oppor
tunity for every young Nebraskan to gain a thorough
knowledge of law, .1 thing which every citizen should
have. What is an education without a general
knowledge of the fundamental principles of law' and
of their applications? Those who have received their
education and those who will receive their education
at this institution are destined to rule this state, if
not as legislators, yet as citizens. It is all important
for the best interests of the state that such a depart
ment has been established and that it should receive
