has for the past two weeks there is not a shadow
of a doubt but that the U. of N. will be more success
ful in the next Field Day than it was in last. We are
glad to see affairs assume this turn. Aside from the
dj.iiiclo gain as much as possible in the inter col
legiate contests. Physical exercise should not be neg
lected by students because good health is indispensa
ble for the best intellectual development.
OtftOW that Nebraska has an inter-collegiate oratori
ffl cal association and an inter-collegiate athletic
association it might be in order to suggest that we or
ganize an inter collegiate press association. The
fact that the inter-state collegiate association was a
complete failure is no indication that the colleges of
Nebraska cannot succeed in such an undertaking.
We would like to hear Irom the other college
papers of the state. All arrangements could easily be
made at the state contest.

perience and yet desires to impress his views upon
the students. The Hesperian has been laboring
under the impression that it was doing all in its
power for the literary societies but now that illusion
has been dispelled and we are asked to publish the
programs of the different societies. Since The Hes
perian is published semi-menthly, it would be neces
sary, under the proposed innovation, for us to devote
about a page of the paper to society programsl
There would be six programs regularly each num
ber and sometimes nine. What good would it do the
societies? When someone explainflw question it will
be time enough for us to give twRatterserious con
sideration. Because the cityJKters publish society
programs is no reason why TmHesperian should do
likewise. The city papers are published daily, and
moreover, they are intended for the most part for
people who are not connected with the University.
The public in general has no means of finding out the
the programs except through the city papers, wliile
