It is pleasing, especially to Tltu Hi'.Sl'l'.uiAN to note that
the "barbs" ate beginning to make themselves Tell in ninny
colleges this year, in colleges, too, where fraternities wcic
supposed to have complete and absolute sway, with no icsist
ance. It shows that the college world is beginning in some
degicc to icalic that the whole student body is a ti ue tin
teinity in the noblest sense of the woid mid that any feudal
aiistociacy aiising within that limit is compatible with the
ideas of the picscnt age. In connection with this it is inter
esting to see the gcncial mention made of the litcian socie
ties in all exchanges. Another hern of mlcicst is the "Ami
Fraternity Holt" at Noithwestcin Univcisity wheieancw
paper is to be started that will not have its tongue lied. Tin
Northwestern fcais very much that the new publication will
injure the reputation of the university, because of course (at
least in the Northwestern11 s opinion) it is to be a fourth rate
sheet. We do not know what the new paper is to be but we
do know that it will not be necessary for it to have any gicat
entctpiisc or anything else to outrank considerably the paper
now in existence there.
