Princeton sup ported the nfllrmntlve and Harvard the negative. Harvard has challenged the Univer sity of California for a foot ball game at Cambridge on October 21st. The Callfornlnns are desirous of meeting an eastern team, but want to ploy on the home grounds. Professor A. It. Cook of Northwest ern university has made arrangements for the most extensive geological trip ever undertaken for the university. He will leave Kvtinston with seven of his studenKs in dune and go to Lara mie City, Wyo., and from there .100 miles overland toward Montana tad the Yellowstone. The party will be gone over month, and will make a thorough study of the geological for mations. Professor Cook has taken two trips of this nature before, one In the Ural mountains and one along lite Pacific coast. If this one Is as suc cessful as the others such journeys will bo made annual events. The freshman mediean class at the University of Michigan held a hot meeting a few days ago. whic.t lusted over two hours, the object of the meet ing being to determine If the class wished to stdopt the honor system which is in vogue with the '09 medical class. There was great opposition to the plan in spite of the fact that It had worked well in other classes. There was much feeling about the mnt ter the chief opposition being on the gro'und that the plan would necessi tate that each student net as a spy and report his transgressing elass mnte which idea was extremely repul sive to the class in general. Michigan defeated Chicago last week in the debate closing the northwestern association contests. They debated the nftlrmatho of the question: "Ad mitting it to be the constitutional, is a federal gradnnled income tav desi rable in this country." They received an unanimous decision. Michigan's debaters were Kingsley, Simons and Sniigt-r. "The Mlnnsoln Ariel olTer.s below a suggestion which is worthy of consid eration: "A writer in the Heloit Weekly suggests that a censor be ap pointed to correct and revise the re marks made by Casper Whitney in re gard to western athletics published in Harper's Weekly. While some f Mr. WhitneV statements may have been erroneous or illogical, still on the -whole ho has been as fair as a man in his far-off position could be. We would go lloloit one better and sug gest that Harper's employ a western man to write up western athletics, or it would be impossible for one man to grasp the athletic situation in our whole country." The Cornell "fans" are greatly pleased and encouraged by the tn nounceinent that their coach. Hughey Jennings, the crack base ball player, will probably enter the Cornell law school for a three years course. Messrs.
