The enthusiasm of the team, too, will depend iiiueh upon a trood let:inninir. If they have proper encouragement from a large crowd, great things may be expected of them later. Next year several of the western colleges will have stluiuni assistance for the football coach. Tills Is csseu tially a new departure in the west, and ils success or failure will decide largely the future of football here. If student coaches can be found with sufficient enthusiasm and ability, it will be possible to build up in the west distinct s stems. There is no reason why the west .should always depend upon the east for new Ideas and improvements in this greatest col lgc sport more than in otiher things. This is the week during which the spring vacation is scheduled to appear. Jt comes on Thursday and leaves Mon day. This means that students wiill lime live days in w'hieh to rest, pro vided they go to classes without les sons Tuesday. It will be well to rest ihorouirhh while you ret, for the joyous days will be gone soon. Hut acntions are not so much a necessity aft r all. for it is not the quiet of u il ex ent fill days that we are lacking, but the Mir of busy times that will give life and spirit. Nebraska university if not celebrated for superabundant en thusiasm. Perhaps it would be well, therefore, for those who arc to deny tlieniselves tlie pleasures of their hooks during these five days to in dulge in some hilarious sport for the sake simply of the practice. lien you are jui ready to take the train to return to the university for the last long two months of the jour, and when you lime finished the sad farewells to all the members of the family, who so much dislike to think of your long absence, Mist this time will be opportune for informing the holder of tlie family pume that the needs of the coming term are going to be extraordinary. First of all, it will be absolutely necessary, if one would keep up appearances, that he should encourage the university orator by going to Hclleviie to sing the college song- and wave the college colors. Af ter that then is the interstate con test which, being bed in Lincoln this ear. is the biggest event of its kind that has occurred in ten years. Of itself this contest will not be expens ive, but it will require several dollars for the events which come in connec tion -with it. Besides there will lie the senior promenade nnd several les ser social functions thnt one simply enneof inis. The base ball reason, loo, requires consideration, for there are a number of games scheduled to he plnvevl u-non the campus with Jhe verv best college teams in the country. To see such eames is not implv reere nt'nn. it is n neeessnrv part of one's prlnpnllon. You can think of several other thlncs. neh as innior and sn jor an.-niinl, which -will renulre dollars nnd nuarters. amounting 4n n11 per hane 1o tep or twenty dollars, which your mother will not nllow jou to go without, and which your (other, tin der tin' einbiirniHHliif? utrcUniHtuneVn, will not find heart to refuse you.
