not be purchased for less. It
would be n valuable addition to
any student's library.
There are no restrictive condi

Any ono can do it. A time limit
has been set however. All names
must be handed in by Monday,

If anyone desires, he may se

price for the Nebraskan the rest

There is frequently much com
plaining on tho part of sludonts
booauso of tho abundanco of "rod
tapo" used by tho university au
thorities. It is said thoro is no
ncod of it and that it is a rogular
nuisance. Who should ono hnvo
to go to Prof. Onrd and thon to
tho gardonor boforo ho can got
plants or ilowors? Why should
tho Chancellor, Prof. Barbour nnd
soveral others hnvo to bo intor
viowod boforo ono enn got n littlo
piece of bunting?
If tho thoughts of tho gardonor
or Prof. Barbour could only bo
intorproted when tho plnnts nnd
bunting fail to got bnok aft or sov
eral days absonco, tho explanation
of tho wholo matter would bo vory
clear. If students woro idoal mon
and womon, thoro would bo no
nood of "rod tape." It has boon
customary for studonts to get
plants for receptions and pro
grams, promising to rot urn thorn
immediately. Whon tho program
is ovor the plants nro noglocted.
No ono looks after thorn. Tho re
sponsibility can not bo locntod,
nnd the gnrduor hns to come for
them.
This hns boon repented mnny
timos until tho pnlienco of tho
authorities is nearly exhausted.
About tho only way to locato re
sponsibility is to havo ono or two
studonts sign a paper to tho offect
that they will see that tho property
gets back in good shapo and at
onco. if students will not do tho
proper thing they should bo re
stricted. Tho only way tho uni
versity has to protoot itsolf, is by
those restrictions
It is about timo tho barbarous
mode of voting at class elections,
oratorical "scraps," otc, bo abol
ished by our students. Wo hnvo
no use in our timo for such a
primitive method. It is ridicu
lous to hoar a man yell out before
four or fivo hundred studonts his
preferred candidates, especially if
for a good reason ho wishes to
"scratch tho ticket." This al
ways causes a ripple of laughter
whon is is thought that some ono
is gottinsr a littlo " roast." At
any rate it causes unpleasantness
for all concerned.
After tho oratorical election
many queries of tho following
sort could be hoard: "Say, B.,
what did you scratch my name
for? " Now maybe it is nobody's
business but Mr. B.'s own that
such and such an individual's
name was scratched. Ho may
have had good reasons for doing
it which it would be hard to ox
plain to his acquaintance, but
which, nevertheless, cannot bo
made to bo understood.
Studonts should see that the
mode of voting should bo pro
vided for in tho new constitution
to tho Athletic Association.
It is just ns true hero as any
where else ono of the chief
objects of the Australian system
is tho secret ballot "rotten poli
tics" is just as apt to oroop in as
not.
Why not havo each ono, as his
name is called, walk up and do
posit his ballot? It is not neces
sary that he should write his
name on it oithor. Thoro is too
much chance of railroading
through a "cooked ticket" in the
present .system. Before every
election hold tho votors nro but-ton-holod
and given no rofit
until thoy promiso to vote ono
way or tho othor.' If wo cannot
provont this ovil, wo can at least
losson it.
Lot us soo that a modo of vot
ing is adoptod which is at least
modorn nnd which will take away
soino of tho odious work of tho
" collogo politician."
There should be no complaint
on tho part of tho cadots against
purchasing duck trousors. Tho
price is low onough and nobody is
going to bo 'guyed1' if ho wear
thorn to class. When tho thor
moinolor is 100 dogroos in tho
shndo, nnd tho dust six inohos
(loop noxt sunimor nt enmp, thon
will tho oadots rise up and call tho
"Liout" blossod for introducing
duck trousors.
It is to bo regretted that tho
sophomoro class had a scrap ovor
tho oloctiou of tho Sombrero
board. It was not tho " barbs and
frats " this time but soomed moro
of a porsonnl fight. It is to bo
hoped that tho opposing factions
will forget thoir troublo and join
in making tho Junior Annual a
success noxt yonr.
The Hosporinn hns naked tho
